exactly. every movement needs its extremists in order for the middle to be taken seriously.

Speaking as an american feminist: yes, the movement is/was important, but unfortunately, like the rest of american culture, it's all about "i want" and "give me" and "i want choice". Women just end up being spun around in the consumerist cyclone. The planet is going to pot, families are messed up, and the happy index is way down.

There just wasn't enough love, imho.

So you're saying the planet is going to pot because of 'the movement'.

Agreed, Feminism has one major flaw, women want equal pay and treatment, however when we guys treat them like we treat other guys, we get sent to sensativity training because we told a dirty joke or we talked about the sex we got last night... (Sorry I had to make that carlos mencia reference...)

You can ether be treated equally, or you can be treated special, take your choice, and choose wisely, if you want to be treated special, don't complain about lower pay, if you want to be equals, don't complain when guys talk to you like we talk to other guys...

Believe me, I know some people that do stuff like that...

Heck, one of the websites I work at, we have a joke going about where the moderators are having a war on the forums in their signatures, saying to stay away from each other due to STDs...

If feminism were about equality, instead of what it actually is: misandry, it wouldn't even be called "feminism", it would be called "equalism" or something.

There is the feminist saying of "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle." Most people think that's supposed to be empowering, but I think, what an incredibly hurtful thing to say! Telling someone they are completely useless and irrelevant, that's just... wow.

The biggest contribution feminism gives to society today is putting a huge chip on women's shoulders and setting them up to have a victim mentality.

I'm, well, amazed that anyone would come up with that reading. No wonder you don't know what misandry is, if you think merely not placing men at the center of the universe applies.

BlueMage has a point. No movement can really be successful if it is divisive or elitiist. The group it helped the most were single white women. They were the ones with the time to put into the movement.

I think it's helped women of all races. Sonia Sotomayor and Condoleeza Rice would not have risen to positions of power without it.

I didn't mean to imply that there wasn't some amount of success. The world needed the movement for sure. But it could have been handled better. too much media distortion. For instance, there never was a bra-burning.

And instead of us vs them, if it could have emphasized how it helps everyone. Just like the civil rights movement isn't only about helping minorities. *everyone* benefits when a society respects itself.

I'm all for full equality. No more segregated drinking fountains and public restrooms.

I think that the Chinese under Mao had it right--everyone, regardless of gender, simply wears a green uniform.

No trying to show off how sexy you are.
