Just got a pm from someone looking for me to email her for "a good time" ...
What procedure do we follow to remove these folk?

Post in the moderator attention thread - that way we actually receive a notification that someone needs help. If you forward the PM on to me I'll ban them.

You can't, because they just keep coming back again and again and again.

Go to your My Account
then to Browse Users
then adjust to "descending"
and there they are, the newbies.
You can see the potential commercial spam to advertise and passion bots to lure you to porno sites right there. look to see if their posted websites are commercial ventures, Look to see if they have a blog entry or if they have posted nothing at all, but they are PMing folks.

with everyone working on it, it shouldn't take long to clean up the sleepers just waiting to send their PMs When it was part of the moderators daily duties it kept the board pretty clean and discouraged other spammers from even trying.

If every person that is having a problem with the sexploitation emails just took a page of the incoming and went through it and reported it to the mods, you could eliminate most of the issue. It just takes diligence and a will to persevere.

Sorry Sins, but there are no (or very few) sleepers as you call them. I've explained all this in my sticky thread. Most of the "sleepers" aren't actually spammers in the usual sense of the word, they are simply exploiting WP to link-back to their sites and effectively getting WP to boost their search engine rankings. They don't give a damn if they are banned because the majority have no intention of posting anything here or sending any PMs to anyone. All they care about is having a profile with a link to their site in it. Their target isn't the membership of WP at all! Their target is Google search, Yahoo search, Bing search etc.

I think sinsboldly forgot to mention - we also removed the links to their sites.

I don't seem to have access to do that; there are no edit options via the member profile window and there don't appear to be any related options in the ban tool.

You are correct. You need admin rights.

Which is a pity. We can't do that.

It really is too bad, it kept the board clean and deterred others from even trying.
