So... I have a suggestion... when someone creates a link... the text is indistinguishable from the body text of the post... I think that should be changed...

That can be changed quite easily.
If you want your link to stand out put it on bold
If you want your link to stand out put it on italics

I just had to pay a lot of money to install AdBlock so I wouldn't have to be subjected to flashing images (adds) when using this site. Considering how many ASD people have sensory issues, allowing this site to have flashing images/auto loading audio commercials and the like is a peculiar kind of cruelty.

I think I may decide that this place is not where I want to spend time anymore as whoever runs it does not appear to have any respect for whoever uses it.

Adblock is literally free to use as are several alternatives.

If by any chance you were unable to google how to block ads from a website and do a bit of research/ Ask here(several members have done so and we gladly directed them there) and you choose to contact an outsider about it first there is very little we can do about it

Or (re. highlighting links) as worked examples with a URL:

Check out this site here - it should look familiar.
Check out this site here - it should look familiar.
Check out this site here - it should look familiar.

Written in the post as:

Code:
Check out [url=http://www.wrongplanet.net][color=blue]this site[/color][/url] here - it should look familiar.
Check out [url=http://www.wrongplanet.net][color=blue][b]this site[/b][/color][/url] here - it should look familiar.
Check out [url=http://www.wrongplanet.net][color=blue][i]this site[/i][/color][/url] here - it should look familiar.

True - it should happen automatically, but...

Have a look at privacy settings on youtube.
One of the many options is to make a video private/only accesible through a link you may post here.
Someone could share that link elsewhere but they could also take your video from a standard website player and do the same(one of the downsides of jdownloader and similar thingies)

Oh, I know... but most people don't know that... and it seems that the code should automatically do it... I know the work around, but it can be confusing for new members

I'd like to see a new word filter added: Asperger's > Aspergers

Good idea. I'll do it now...

If only Cornflake would add that Like button to the forum...

That is beyond both (a) our remit and (b) our access to the site software. Adding a word filter is easy and within the realms of action for site admins (me and cornflake) but programming changes are solely in the realms of Alex... and the site software is barely limping along as it is so he would be extremely unlikely to tinker with it.

Hah, if only we (me & TallyMan) had such abilities.
But since you've named me specifically - it's neither my decision nor within my remit to do anything like this with WP's code.

Also, in addition to what TallyMan said, this would entail major redesigns of practically everything involved with WP: post layout, functionality of the button (Has this member already "liked" this post? How many "likes"? Where/how to display them?), where/how that information is stored in a changed database structure without breaking the existing one, creating the required code to make it all work, etc.
Outside of any of this is whether it's really appropriate on a support forum to encourage the appearance of a popularity contest. This isn't Facebook.
I'm sure that some members would find it upsetting to see certain posters "always" getting liked, while they never do. You've doubtless seen "The unpopular WP members club" thread and although that was created partially in jest, there is an element of truth to it.

But there are more important and seriously annoying bugs here which really require attention before considering the addition of bells & whistles; the problem with any of this is that the codebase is very old, uses seriously outdated techniques, is so heavily patched and in such a fractured state that it's better all round to replace it entirely.
Even if what replaces it doesn't include a "like" button, at least it would be in a better condition and would make the creation of such additions more feasible - and as the code would be current, plug-ins or similar modules providing additional functionality are likely to be available ready-built.

It was a joke - a while ago, some guy was really passionate about it and kept asking you specifically to add it, ignoring any explanation you gave. Guess that was further in the past than I thought.

Hi Folks,

I've been referring a lot of people to this site, many who have been recently diagnosed and need just a bit of mentoring. A typical question is "What is an 'NT?"" Is there a place, as in a specific discussion that is stickied, I can refer them too. I'm running into a lot of people who are really self-conscious and need a friendly place to get a handle on things.

Regards,
Rob

The site search turned up surprisingly little with "what is an NT" and there is no sticky as such - but this is excellent:

Cool! It there a chance of creating an obviously placed section for those who are newly self-diagnosed and in shock, where they can get a quick orientation to the jargon and tribal knowledge of the autism community? Perhaps it could be called "Jargon and Tribal Knowledge of Autism"
