On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being completely transparent and 10 being James Bond, how well do you think you disguise your AS/HFA?
For me:
Strangers-10. Coworkers-6. Friends-8. Close family-4. Spouse-2. |

Ha, I like how you presented that question.
I can't answer it, though.. my numbers are ever changing. |

| Then give yourself a low-high (like for me coworkers would be 4-6)score for each catagory and post those, or the average of the two. |

| I simply don't talk to most people im not comfortable with, so they really dont know anything about me at all, but think im odd, so i'ed say 7 or so with them. My friends and family tend to see me on a range from 4-0, depending on how talkative im feeling. |

| The older I get the less able I am to disguise my aspieness. So that number would change over time. The proportions remain the same though - same as yours. |

I agree with having difficulties disguising my "eccentricities" as I get older.
Strangers - Who knows, I don't talk to them.
Coworkers - They think I am incredibly odd and antisocial.
Family - Very superficial relationships, so again, who knows.
Friends - They find me to be somewhat interesting. I can really be myself... for the most part.
Spouse - He lives with me and is familiar with most of my quirks. I wouldn't say it's easy for him though. |

Negative 1.
I disguise it so well that even when I bring up the subject with friends and relatives, no one connects AS/ASD with me!

I'm not fooling anyone. I think just about everyone from strangers to family sees the weirdness. That they don't have a name for it doesn't change that. I'm not even trying to hide it anymore, just compensate as needed to accomplish what I need to accomplish. I'm trying to learn to ask for help as needed so the difficult areas don't sink me. Trying to hide is kind of like the puppy who hides his head under a blanket while leaving his entire back end exposed. He thinks he's hiding, but really? _________________ Aspie 176/200 NT 34/200 Very likely an Aspie

Ever since I was a kid, I've channeled my stimming (or compulsive hand flapping/movement) through using/playing with a fingerboard..
I wouldn't exactly say that's "hiding" it, but it works, I guess.. I'm 30 years old now, and still fiddle with it.(doesn't go over as well as an adult) |

I don't think I disguise it that well, I mean people might not think its AS specifically that I have........but I have yet to successfully appear normal to anyone. _________________ It's like alice in wonderland except, my names not alice and this is the real world not a dream. |
