The sad part is that proms exist.
Why is that sad? Prom is great for many kids. My daughter just had her prom and a horrible experience because they decided to close it early, but overall prom is great. I went to prom with a boy from another school (my school had a banquet instead - baptists don't dance) and I loved it.
I know that some kids don't like it or can't get dates, but that's no reason to ruin it for everyone.
My daughter looked forward to it for months, and spent a long time finding the perfect dress, etc for it. It was also her and her fiance's 5th anniversary and that made it extra special. They were late getting there because the dinner they went to first ran long, and it was raining and prom was held 50 miles away. It was over when they got there, even though the tickets said it was from 7-11pm. She is getting a refund.
Why do you believe that it's sad that prom exists?? _________________ Frances

Proms sad?
May be its time that side of the Pond do proms the way we do it here in Blighty.
This is how we do proms

I'm glad I'm from England and most places don't really have a prom here but like a few tacky American traditions, it has started to appear in the UK in a few places. The limos and dresses are tacky and remind me more of a gypsy wedding.

you have your own tacky traditions, like the hats at the Royal Ascot. _________________ on a break, so if you need assistance please contact another moderator from this list:

Hmm that's more imaginative and fun because it blatantly admits it so it pulls itself off rather well.

don't worry, we get plenty of your tacky sh!* here too
Prom can be lovely, sometimes it's not.
Having/not having a date doesn't determine whether or not you have a good time.
It's not that tragic to not have a prom date.
School dances are fun in a fluffy way but I think prom carries a little too much cultural weight for it's own good.
All you gotta do is look sickening and party _________________ If your success is defined as being well adjusted to injustice and well adapted to indifference, then we don’t want successful leaders. We want great leaders- who are unbought, unbound, unafraid, and unintimidated to tell the truth.

I'm surprised anyone would get sensitive over prom being labelled as tacky, it seems like a bit of fun. Even these Harvard law school students have a tacky spoof prom night and don't seem to take prom seriously.

it's the second time you put down american proms, but every culture has their tacky traditions. _________________ on a break, so if you need assistance please contact another moderator from this list:
