I want to post in the topic called "Post a pic of yourself RIGHT NOW!", but it says there's an error in posting. It won't even let me edit my posts! What can I do? Please sort it! Sad

I've posted in there before, just so you know.

Can you post plain text, with no picture?

Yes, apparently I can.

And then I edited it and showed a picture, and it worked. Well, as long as it doesn't happen again...

Just got this message and thought I'd pass it on:

World says "Hello" back.

Are you including a picture in your post?

I tried to include many at first. Then I tried just one, but that didn't work either. It ws in a different topic, but still.

Including many images almost always seems to cause problems, and sometimes even one image does too. I've experienced it a couple of times with one image - either a simple "Error in posting" message or more commonly, "Can't obtain smilies data".
In your third post you said that editing the post got it to eventually work - is that now not the case?

If this error is going to occur it usually occurs on preview too, so a preview can be used to "test" the situation before posting.
When I've had this error on posting I use the browser's "back" button to return to my post edit screen and then attempt a preview - firstly to see if it works and secondly to see it my post was actually made, despite the error. You can always see the most recent post to a thread below the "preview" area and sometimes, there's my successful post.
Amongst these are actually the resolutions for the problems I've had, and I've only had repeated failures where there was something weird with the image file itself. That's unlikely in your case as you're posting images from the same webcam source.

The upshot is that it appears to be a problem with the forum software and there's nothing we can actually do about it, since it requires the code to be pulled apart and re-written, and that's well outside our remit.

I'm afraid that the only thing available at the moment is "try again".
Sorry.

Maybe you could also try uploading the image/s that won't work to different image host?

I noticed that the site wouldn't under any circumstances let me post this JPEG image:
http://www.131500.com.au/maps/upload/images/cityrail_network.gif

But I searched for similar images with Google and found this which I can post:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yyvdv3oSGjQ/T1rKU-Vh9zI/AAAAAAAAGH4/8FDZubm9EM4/s1600/cityrail_network.gif

It turns out that the latter file is binary identical copy*, so in this example it's not the image file itself that gives rise to the "couldn't load smilies data" error...
nb: it's also not that the former server is unreachable or anything either... I can post other images from that same server (I just tested one)

*well I'm lazy so I didn't compare every byte - but the file sizes are the same and they have the same CRC... so it's inconceivable that they are not byte for byte identical

Out of curiosity I've just run a byte comparison and can confirm both files are identical byte for byte.
