So I've been playing this game "I wanna be the Boshy" (google download it, it's completely free and doesn't weight much) and gosh it is insanely hard....

So I started on the second normal difficulty but pretty soon I moved to "EZ". I took me hours and still I haven't got to the first boss I guess I am THAT terrible. Can someone relate to my frustration with this game? I mean I am not saying it's bad by any means, I just mean it's really really challenging, and BTW it has a sadistic sense of humour (I'm only at the beginning so) really hilarious. Kudos to anyone getting past the first boss!!

BTW, what do you think was the hardest game ever in history? I remember Captain Claw being really hard (I got to level 13 without cheats but couldn't get past it). Starcraft Broodwar was hard for me, cause there was only one difficulty... and phew I am really bad with Zerg (although they are my fav race) so the last mission took me like an hour and something. And then I went to youtube and saw someone speedrun it in less than 20 minutes. I guess every game I play, there is a guy out there doing the same level x3 faster.

This. When someone actually beat it on the highest difficulty, the creator didn't believe him. EVERYTHING tries to kill you. EVERYTHING. On Impossible, there are no save points.

Yeah but you have to admit that it is funny to watch other people play it when they are fuming over it. LOL! Good times.

A good question, but it clearly isn't a twitch game like IWBTG or some primitive arcade crap outta the dark ages; especially it isn't one where the designer's shrunken excuse for a brain equates 'hard' with repetitive tedium. The hardest game must necessarily be complicated (you could program a game of Invaders to require millisecond precise user input; it would not be 'harder' than draughts in any non-trivial sense) and played against a strong intelligence (just about anyone can beat a computer), which pretty much limits the field to grand strategy games against a human opponent, or possibly an MMO along the lines of EVE. Thinking about it, while perhaps not as hard in a straight-line sense as a really complex strategy game, EVE is a good contender overall because to advance requires extreme OOC metagaming and cooperation.

I'm not sure what the hardest games for me have been. There are some that are hard for all the wrong reasons, and those on the opposite end, and then more in between. Borderlands has been one of the former, whereas I'd place Super Metroid as one of the legitimately challenging games out there. Earth Defense Force 2017 can get pretty hectic, but you can kind of bypass that with enough armor grinding.

Mostly it seems to be RPGs that get me. Chrono Trigger and the Paper Mario games have been a bit easier, but stuff like Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6 kick my *** at least at one point or another. The farthest I've got I think has been ExDeath's castle.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2. Chapter "Our Mutual Friend" (that's a link). Trying to defeat all the striders and hunters without a single post being destroyed.

I adore the Half-Life series, but I hate that chapter with a seething passion.

Well, as has been mentioned there are games out there that are hard due to bad controls, poor balancing, or awful game mechanics. But, games that are hard for legit reasons? I've played some of those over the years, so I know all about that game type. I'm still having trouble beating the first Contra without cheating. I can only get to stage 7 when I'm at my best. There's a genesis game though, that is one demon from my childhood that I'm still trying to conquer, but have yet to be able to, on easy, with a friend. It's called Biohazard Battle, and is a side scrolling shmup with alien bugs. It's...strange, as well as hard. But, one day I'll beat it. Seeing the end of the game is on my bucket list.
