Anything Johnny Depp stars in, especially if it's directed by Tim Burton.

The most beautiful and impressive sci fi horror ever made and unlikely to be outdone - Alien

Agreed, I don't know why everyone thinks so much of the sequel (Aliens), it was just a watered-down copy with more explosions and guns.

I think Aliens was a good continuation but it looks dated now and was very of the time (80's), whereas Alien has proved itself to be timeless.

I enjoyed all the alien films.. Alien was beautifully terrifying, but I did love the colonial marines.
I have a curious soft-spot for marines in movies generally though, so probably biased.

Re Johnny depp, I personally like him best as anyone intoxicated, especially as hunter s Thompson, from fear and loathing.
Not that there's anything wrong with tim burton though, more power to any and all who get "stuck into" their imaginations. Lifes more interesting that way.. Smile

Can't pick today, have been trying for a few hours lol

The warriors. Quite dated now and perhaps not a masterpiece but one of those films I would say ya gotta see. Colourful if nothing else, I personally love it dearly. A comfort film for me
Hopefully it's at least somewhat enjoyable to others too.. Also some very cool quotes Wink can you count suckas?

For a light family film about an exotic bird being pressured into sex, I'd suggest Rio. I'm watching it tonight with MONKEY to kinda celebrate our first date (just over a year ago - we were unavailable on the actual anniversary).

Also the birds in it are blue!

Also Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I had it on video years ago, and re-bought it on DVD a couple of days ago. I'm looking forward to seeing it again. It's been ages.

Haha the description of Rio cracked me up..
Think i'd go with close encounters first as it has been said to be a classic and i've not seen it.
Thanks Usagi Smile

Saw easy rider yesterday for first time. Again, one of those that I would say ought to be seen, so to speak. Very much of it's time but certainly still seemed relevant on it's way.. Plus it's a real trip, to borrow from it's own vernacular. visually and also the ideas explored.

Off the top of my head - -

Drive

The Rum Diaries

The Guard

Very exceptional, but just the same, very different from your run-of-the-mill films.

If you want something very sick and absolutely ridiculous, you could do worse than Nico Mastorakis' Island of Death.

Yes, it's the film where women and goats are raped (and said goat is then stabbed to death), a lesbian is pissed on and then burnt alive using a blowtorch, a man is forced to drink paint, the starring couple indulge themselves in incestuous sex and masturbation over the photographs of people they just murdered and various people are offed in sometimes ludicrous ways. It's so relentlessly cheesy and crap - with a so-bad-it's-good cheese of a soundtrack that it's good fun though. Smile

Oh, and one other film I'd definitely recommend if you like gory and cheesy action movies from the 1970s is a film called The Smuggler.
