When I was in fifth grade I was in a private school. The school did a dance with another school and a couple of girls asked me to dance. I never was in a situation like this before, so I asked the other boys that I went to school with which one was prettier. They told me which one they thought was pretty and I danced with her and got her phone number. Only afterward did the other boys tell me that they were only joking. They thought the girl I was with was absolutely ugly. That was when I first realized that I had no concept of pretty or ugly. I still don't really. I just base my thoughts on it on what I think others would think. I'm just wondering if this is an Aspie thing.

HALLELUJAH on that. i can spot models for some reason, and i have occasionally told a random female she should sign on to an agency, but i don't see beauty in their faces and bodies. just a formulaic layout that reflects what the media wants to see.

I guess I do. It's only worth something if they have a personality to match, though.

(And I say they because I'm bisexual.)

Thank you for your input everyone. There doesn't seem to be a consensus, but it look s like it is probably an Aspie thing. It's practically a fifty/fifty split. I would suspected that with NTs it would lean more toward the former than the later.

NTs and maybe some others as well, have a strong opinion of beauty, especially when it comes to people. Many consider themselves experts on what beauty is and isn't. It doesn't occur to them that everyone could very well be different shades of ugly even though this, in itself, is a value statement. It's the undying, never ending need for people to attach value to damned near everything they encounter.

What is on the inside has always counted more to me than their appearance. I think if that is you're first priority of a person that would make you rather shallow, but its in the eye of the beholder I guess. Finding someone with a super models appearance may be nice to look at, but if they are a horrible you have nothing to gain on a personal level with this person. To me, a great personality is the real beauty of an individual.

I really like this discussion.
I feel I have a very particular view of what I find attractive. I usually like girls with quirky interesting personalities and a different quality of physical beauty. I like girls who dress modestly, don't wear much make up and are as real as possible (if that makes sense).
In England there is a culture of women who overly dress up, caked in make up, bleached blond hair, high heels and all the rest. I can't stand it. A previous poster highlighted a show we have here called Geordie Shore. That for me is the epitome of the glossed over wannabe celebrity culture that seems to be popular at the moment. It makes me sick watching naive young people getting sucked into it. They try and become something they're not without allowing themselves to discover themselves or to develop into their own person.

anyway...

for some reason I'm very attracted to Kristen Stewart at the moment. I'm not a fan of twilight at all but I seen an interview with her on an English TV programme and I just sensed there was something a little different about her compared to most celebs. She was interesting to me. Her shy and awkward manner reminded me of me a lot. I think I might make a thread about kristen stewart possibly having AS (even though I disagree with people hypothesising about celebs having it, she really does fit the bill for me).

I don't find supermodels attractive at all.
Here's the kind of people I'd go nuts over Smile
Summer Glau in particular because of her role as River on firefly. One of my all time favorite characters.

Picture resized
And Emily Browning in The Uninvited.

I definitely seem to like people who would be described as weird.

For example:
River Tam- Firefly
Ed- Cowboy Bebop
Osaka- Azumanga Daioh
Temna- School Rumble
Luna- Harry potter

I see beauty in all of these people because of their unique personalities.
This song pretty much sums up my feelings Smile

Wow, this is difficult. I always hear the "hourglass" for women and the "v" for men. I didn't even know what "v" meant until someone told me- I didn't consider it more attractive than a person who didn't have this supposed "v"... Confused

I can tell what is considered by most people to be attractive and I can also tell whay is considered to be attractive to myself. Sometimes they overlap, but often, they're different.
