I'm a woman, and am often told I have male mannerisms, and I think I'm harshly judged for attributes which wouldn't even be noticed in men.
When I was obese, I was constantly-presumed to be a lesbian.
I remember a striking incident when I was silently perusing in a small shop and heard from behind me a woman ask "Excuse me, sir, can you tell me the time?" I whirled around, startled, and there's this little old blind lady with her face turned expectantly upward toward mine.
I don't know what it meant, if anything, I've just always remembered it.

I am a short, fat, middle aged woman. No one has ever taken me for a man, but I don't care for girl stuff, and don't wear dresses, skirts, high heels, or make up. Don't like how I look with a naked face? Tough! Laughing While I think babies are cute, I don't run around drooling over them. I am just not into girl stuff, and no I'm not a lesbian, either. I think of myself as sort of gender neutral. Since my hysterectomy a few years ago, I really am gender neutral, now. Laughing I can live fine without those parts, and the cancer inside meant that I would eventually not be able to live with those parts, so out they came. Further evidence of my gender neutral state is that I never wanted to marry or have kids, and never did. I would have made a lousy wife and mother anyway. It doesn't bother me to be gender neutral at all. When I was younger older female relatives would give me a hard time about it at family get togethers.--"When are you going to get married?" "Do you have a boy friend?" "How come you don't have a boy friend yet?" And when I told them I didn't want a boy friend and would never get married, they would insist that, "You'll change your mind." Well, I never did change my mind on this, and never will. I prefer being single and living alone. I find it far less stressful and much more peaceful than living with other people.

People need to find their own path in life, and others don't have the right to interfere, as long as you are not hurting anyone.

I've never been told that I act like a man, but I have had many instances where someone assumed that I was a lesbian because of the way I didn't drool over men, or behave as if I were in heat, and the way that I was very content to be asexual and single for many years. I also had a lot of women hit on me because they assumed that just because I wasn't dating, that I must be into women. Most of the time, I feel neither masculine or feminine; just like myself. I do notice that I feel more feminine now that I am engaged to my man, but it is a direct result of being in a relationship with him. Otherwise, I have always felt gender neutral.

Mom told me I was a tomboy growing up until 5th grade. My husband says I am not like a typical woman. I don't follow the gender roles and I don't often wear dresses or skirts and I don't wear make up or care about fashion. I do care about my clothes matching but I still wear what I like and I don't try and keep up with fashion and I keep my clothes. I don't buy any anymore. I do like to be clean and I clean.

I have been asked if I was a lesbian in high school.

I'm a female but I identify as male to the extent that my profile here on WP says that I'm male. I was called a boy by my female classmates in elementary school. I never cared about crushes, boyfriends or relationships. I've been told by many people that I act like a boy or a man. I've also took those comments as compliments. My mum even compared me to Mick Avory of The Kinks in the Summer of 1998 when I was very sick, mentally as a way of trying to get me to be more feminine. I kept on acting like a man, because I felt that I should do whatever I wish and I still do. I even started to take my mum's comment as a compliment three years ago, this coming Mid-September. You can tell by my rank, location and signature. I also like to do the more masculine activities on my Wii Fit +. I also enjoy hard, heavy work when I'm given the chance to do it.

I'm a man and though I've never been called feminine, I have been called "f***ing fa***t" and the like. Apparently not harassing women = gay. Rolling Eyes

I've been told I act feminine, but only with certain things, movements, certain mannerisms, not caring about which colors are masculine and which are feminine, etc.

I'm female and no one really comments on how I act, so I guess I'm doing it right.

Trans. I spent 2007 and half of '08 female. Since I was in California at the time, I made it legal. Now that I'm in Virginia, I rather regret that decision. At least I'm done w/ the dieting.

I've been told that I dress and behave in an androgynous manner. As one of my sisters put it, I'm "a touch of Mars and a touch of Venus". I've also been mistaken as a boy twice.
