I usually get the opposite. People usually try to bring me down "to their level" (e.g. complaining, being unhappy, negative).

If anything, I've learned that people just don't like having happy people around them if they aren't. They will do everything possible to bring you down to their level and make you miserable too.

It seems whichever side you're on, you're not going to win.

Intresting because as an unhappy person I have to say I'd rather just go isolate myself than bring others down. Then of course people get mad at me for avoiding them....so you're right either way you can't win. Why the assumption being unhappy is a reason to go out ofyour way to do everything possible to bring others down to?

Not all of them, of course not. Not saying you do - or that they all do. I was mostly referring to the people I have to work with in my last post.

But many of those I work with seem to make themselves feel better - even if only momentarily, by bringing someone else down.

It does seem difficult to not let others influence one's mood or level of happiness, either way. That's what I'm working on, finally, now that I'm getting older, and wish I had figured out when I was younger. How to maintain my own center, or be able to return to it more quickly if something throws me off balance.

It doesn't usually throw me off balance, it just gets mildly annoying when it's constant. It's their own problem, and I treat it as such.

On the rare occasion when they take it way too far - I have a little mini rant about it in my journal (or lately, on WP). Then it's over and done with, and I get on with more interesting things.

Well I guess I hate being brought down so I don't do it to other people, At least I try not to...I am sure I have unintentionally though.

I don't get why I have to feel a certain way about everything. I would say most of the time I'm neither happy nor sad or anything else in between- I'm simply existing and perceiving. Feelings are something that sneak up on me.

Feelings are like the creepy guy that steals underwear at the laundromat. They sneak up on you, and when they do, you usually don't realize until something has gone missing from the dryer. Laughing

Today I was not happy. I am either happy or I am not. I am still tired and exhausted form this morning.
