I took a subitizing test and thought it was pretty interesting. The form of this test was yellow and blue dots flashing on the screen in a random pattern or 200ms. The goal is to decide whether there were more blue or yellow dots. Apparently chimps are better at subitizing than humans. The average for people is 75% correct.

If you have 5 min to spare try this test for 25 trials (it goes very fast don't worry) and let me know what your % correct was for the 25 trials.

***please*** also tell me how you would rate yourself in basic arithmetic ( +, -, x, / ) ability.

***Pretty please*** If you have taken the WAIS arithmetic subtest and remember your score on that subtest (1-19) I would appreciate you posting it.

Here is the link, thanks and have fun Very Happy

The only one I got wrong was the first one because it startled me and I forgot what I was supposed to be looking for when the little visual blip came up. Laughing

96%

I guess I like to play around with Fermi-type problems in my head, but I'd never heard that there was an actual name for them. I just like making speculations about the world around me.

My overall conceptual math skills are fine, but I have a problem translating those into correct answers on a test. I usually miss a little detail that ends up affecting the result of my answer. But that's less about basic arithmetic and more about accuracy.

88%, I probably could have done a little better as my kid was distracting me the whole time. I got the first one wrong because I was expecting dots of the same size, although there were less dots there seemed to be a greater mass of that color and that's what I was initially looking for, afterwards I adjusted my focus on estimates of individual points.

I'm not sure what my ability at basic math is, if I double check my work it's excellent but I'm prone to making dyslexic-type mistakes.

100% Confused
I almost felt like I was hearing two voices. The one that came in first and never second-guessed was always right.

I don't know about my arithmetic skill. I never focused on maths while still in school. Division and subtraction can take a long time for me though.

For 25 of them, I got 96% right. I messed up one where there were 8 blue and 10 yellow.

Arithmetic ability: Unreliable. Lots of stupid mistakes. However, considered very strong at it if put in at all right mind set.

Non-number math ability: Strong. Math major in college. Interested in going onto PhD.

The first one startled me and got that wrong. I was also distracted by a dog bumping into a few times and some other stuff but I am not sure how much that effected me.

I got 88% correct out of 25 tests.

I can do basic math but I don't think I am good at math.

I just did the test again without any distractions now.

I got 96%. I took 25 tests for this as well.

I did it 25 times and got 100%.
I am not good at math--an English major, and I've had two beers.

At first I was curious about the relationship of this test to arithmetic skills. After reading the posts here I'm wondering if there is an ASD advantage on this particular test. I scored 96% BTW.

84%. I missed only one in the last 21 tries, though, so I got better as I went on (might have been a little distracted at first). My math skills are mediocre at best.
