For some reason, the sound of air conditioners starting up really irritates me. At the moment, I am aware of a high-pitched "humming" from the A/C unit outside of my window: while it does not evoke any serious discomfort, it does irritate me a bit.
Anything high-pitched that is non-musical irks me.
Music with too much going on at once--most pop music, the trance/rave/dubstep genre--is physically painful to me.
I also dislike the sound of water quickly clashing against metal...unless I expect it. I sometimes cringe when someone is doing the dishes while I am in my room. When I am doing the dishes myself, however, the sound is tolerable.
| Quote: | | Do you have noises that make you feel certain emotions for no apparent reasons? |
High-pitched buzzing evokes a bit of paranoia in me. Granted, this could be out of fear that the machine emitting the buzzing is somehow radioactive or releasing a harmful substance.
Oddly enough, music that is supposed to make me feel "angry" (songs about being a monster, death, rebellion, ect.) makes me feel upbeat and optimistic, and I am not a violent person, by any extent.
Most other types of music--barring the types mentioned in the first section--has a bit of a meditate effect on me--especially classical music.
I love classical music. |

certain high pitch sounds (pretty sensitive to high pitch noise but only some really bug me), steady repetitive sounds like car door chimes and the sound of dogs licking. _________________ Standing on the fringes of life... offers a unique perspective. Motorbikes at night.
Insects that fly around me.
Drunk people when I'm trying to sleep.
Maybe there are so many things that I am very easily annoyed by lots of things. _________________ www.wrongplanet.net/postp5013377.html&highlight=#5013377

-people closing doors without carefully turning the doorknob
-out of control almost yelling kind of laugh
-loud music including instuments unless played softly (my partner has a banjo and guitar.. drives me crazy)
-tv, I keep it at a volume where I can just make out the words.. the louder I go from there the more uneasy I become |

Clapping. It should only be done in groups of 12 people or more.
Trickling/pouring liquid into a glass. Also, those tabletop waterfalls that were all the rage a few years back. |

| I absolutely hate people whistling. I've noticed it's almost always men who whistle, rarely women. |

People chewing with their mouth open
scraping metal utensils on teeth
chalk squeaking on chalk board
car wind percussion (when rear windows of economy cars are open but fronts are shut and at speeds over 30 it makes a percussion or fast beating sound)
dental drills in my mouth, the sound that translates to my ears
dental spray picks in my mouth (the sound that translates to my ears)
extremely high pitched sounds

My mom and brother chewing loudly with their back molars, or just chewing loudly. I swear my brother sounds like a cow sometimes!
High pitched noises make me angry, as does some beepings and buzzing noises. I always have to stop the microwave before it goes off. White noises bothers me too, and that ringing noise that TVs make.
I've gotten myself to not be so sensitive to them, but sometimes if I'm tired and not entirely in control I get angry at certain noises (and I never get angry). Occasionally my brother turns on high pitched ringing just to bother me, because no one else in my family can hear it.

Eating noises annoy the crap out of me too. I can't stand it, I want to punch whoever makes them.
Also high pitch phones. There's one in my office, the guy who uses it puts on the loudspeaker before he dials the number, and I can't stand that noises. It drives me crazy every single time, even though it just lasts a couple of seconds.
I'm ok with most other sounds. |

Most people here seem to have problem with high-pitched noises. Me too, but I also feel aversed to very low-pitched noises. I canīt stand men talking in dark booming voices and machinery that gives of low-pitched humming.
Itīs like I can only stand noises thatīs within a certain range and anything lower or higher gives me pain.
That said I have to point out that low-pitched sounds can annoy me beyond belief but only high-pitched noises, like pieces of styrofoam rubbed against each other, can cause me something that feels almost like physical pain. |
