Today's been one of those where I didn't really want to work on music so much as build tools. I started messing around with programming Ableton audio, MIDI, and Instrument racks.
The things I've already made:
1) Dual Rake Filter Type 1: 2xBPF (F/Q/Vol macros) w HPF post.
2) Dual Rake Filter Type 2: BPF and HPF (F/Q/Vol macros) w HPF post.
3) Bass Rake: Something I devised specifically for dark dnb 'sickbass'. Same as Type 1 but with 200Hz crossover between designated low and high, also a reverb for High channel - unfortunately the reverb is hidden under the hood, can't fix that without making an unwieldy GUI.
I haven't gotten around to making that kick layering device work but I've figured out how, just a matter of programming it. Wish me luck! |

Just finished this. It's over saturated, so watch your ears. I'll fix it later. |
I think this mix is well within the taste threshold - ie. anything you'd do differently is really up to you. At a minimum I don't know what kind of constructive criticism I'd give because I can't really hear anything that jumps out at me as off. Well done . |

Epic... great pads and synths. What synths are you using?
I think it could use a bit more snare presence. It seems a bit hollow in the middle of the stereofield.
I think it could also do with being just a touch swingier all round.
Great work though, way more polish and professionalism than I'll likely ever achieve
I've just noticed that Soundcloud seems to play the first play on a page at full volume, and then if you play the same tune again, the volume is attenuated. Anyone else notice that? It's been making me question my sanity. More than usual. |
Thanks. I was going for an oldschool deep house track, so it's fairly straight with cut up loops and not much of a groove other that what the loops allow. The pads are bits I've layered in Kontakt and the bassline is just three notes from my Nord running through an Ableton arp. You're right about the snare. The snares from the loops are cut on the eq to make room for a finger snap, but deleted the finger snap/click and forgot about it. |

Well it is Saturnday
I've been going through the reaper user guide, learning the little ins and outs. Managed to figure out sidechaining among other things, so I've been making pads pulse with kicks, which sounds nice.
Mostly I've been writing not music today. _________________ Not currently a moderator |

Oh yeah, I meant to ask you guys if you know of any good sample resources, I could use a big zipfile stuffed with clean drum hits. _________________ Not currently a moderator |

I just realized that I didn't delete the work I put in yesterday. I ran a constancy check to the crossovers - working great! |

| I'm actually now spending day 2 of my weekend surfing producerloops.com. Actually finding a lot of good kits on there and other things I might grab. No desire to start prefabing my productions off of other people's writing but for one-hit percussion, Kontact Player libraries, and long evolvers I'm pretty open-minded to put the sound design on people who are a lot better at that sort of thing than I am. |

Well I posted some of my songs here like two years ago but I figured I'd post a link to my soundcloud account now that a lot has changed.

Hey.
Im Dan and I have a one man music project, 'Bad Suburban Nightmare'. Id describe it as guitar experiments in drone music and slow playing.
I have a record out on a D.I.Y label, and I think its free to download, I also did the artwork.
I have a soundcloud wth longer, unmixed recordings on, and some writing to do with the project.
I have played some small live shows that caused some pretty intense anxiety and heavy doubts beforehand, but they went well. I find I get lost in the playing and the sound. I find playing music very therapeutic personally. |

I recorded this today, my friend done the vocals which were a bit out of tune so I put a lot of echo on them. I'm not sure what to make of the end result. |
