In this case, maybe. On many web sites they run automatically if you have plugins enabled.

It's not practical to enable plugins for this web site and then turn them off again whenever going to other web sites.

^ On Firefox, that's easily managed by installing Flashblock: all such videos are replaced by an empty frame containing a "play" button to mark their location on a page.
Nothing is displayed or played unless that button is clicked.

That sounds interesting. I'll have to check to see if it is also available for Opera. Of course, there are other plugins worth blocking as well.
