Association for Autistic Community (AAC) is currently planning our first annual event, a multi-day gathering of autistic people run by autistic people.

Association for Autistic Community is a not-for-profit entity, and is in the process of obtaining certification as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

Our conference (for autistic people, by autistic people) will be on Monday, July 28th through Friday, August 1 this year, at the California University of Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh, PA). We will be putting out a CFP and price information shortly, but it should be in line with expectations on both accounts. We look forward to seeing both autistic people and our allies at the conference!

Can you help us? We're trying to find a name for our first event! This will be an annual multi-day event put on for and by autistic people (don't worry, allies are welcome too!) to allow us to learn and spend time with each other. We'd love suggestions for what to call it!

I am thrilled about the Autreat type retreat. As far as names,I don't know, but as I recall there were all sorts of great suggestions for names when Alex was considering an event. What do you all think of some of the names previously mentioned on that thread?

If the ultimate plan is to expand enough that people all over the globe will be able to participate in their regional auitistic retreat how about "AutGrow" Then steal a line from "Survivor" and add "Au-t[play, Aut-Wit,Aut-Seed." If you were to need to gain permission from the actual Survivor series, hey, what a great opportunity for a donation request or even an endorsement.

That's pretty much the name of the autistic retreat [AutHaven] in Colorado this week.

I love this idea. Only problem is name needs to stay permanent, while location may change from year to year. "California" suits this year, but may become irrelevant in future years.

There is a nice thread about this, at the Association for Autistic Community's Facebook page:

Seems good, but I guess the conference will be called "Association for Autistic Community Conference (AACC)":

Stim City? Oh yeah, baby!

But Ken, can we hear more of the juicy details, so we get excited about the retreat and start saving up a little money a week for it? Do you have any idea what type of activities are planned? And is everyone required to go to each activity? I hear that people will have more of a choice in food than in other retreats back east. True? Also, is there a swimming pool? Internet access?
At AutHaven last week, we thought about a glowstick party but there weren't really enough attendees. I know there will be many more at the retreat in PA, so a glowstick party would be awesome with that many people. Will there be on in PA?

Please share everything about what is going to be going on as you find out.

Formal presentations are currently being called for: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt252557.html

Other activities will be organized by participants, so will depend on participants' initiatives. In the past, similar events had such activities - glowstick night, dance night, t-shirt painting, making sock puppets, African drumming and dance, making soap bubbles, fipple night (informal get-together to make music and sing), family feud game, painting mandalas, yoga workshop, drama workshop, making jewelry workshop, shintaido (Japanese movement) workshop, interlingua workshop, stim room, stim tent.

Not at all.
All activities are optional.
You only participate in whatever activities you want to participate in.
You could even spend the entire event just sitting on a bench in the yard, if you wish, or staying in your room.

Yes, the choice of food is expected to be more varied than at Autreat.

vickygleitz wrote:

Yes, the campus has one, but I don't know which hours it would be open for participants to swim in.

vickygleitz wrote:
Internet access?
Yes, there is Wi-Fi internet access in most of the venue, including the dorms.

If anyone volunteers to organizer it then there will be one!
