This thread is for posting Youtube or other links to bits of political theory which you would like to discuss or draw people's attention to.

Most forums about political matters are filtered for dissenting views so they are pretty myopic. I have not found that to be the case here, so I have decided to create a thread dedicated to posting bits of political theory that you find interesting, along the lines of how social structures are/ could be arranged in a beneficial or hazardous way.

You realize that just inserting the word "social" or "society" in your post will make you a socialist to the Conservatives.

This video contains commentary about some scenes from Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. There is a bunch of profanity, and implied sexual assault, so you might want to avoid if you find discussions about such topics too disturbing. It makes some observations about certain types of army indoctrination that I think are interesting.

"To understand the nature and quantity of government proper for man, it is necessary to attend to his character. As Nature created him for social life, she fitted him for the station she intended. In all cases she made his natural wants greater than his individual powers. No one man is capable, without the aid of society, of supplying his own wants, and those wants, acting upon every individual, impel the whole of them into society, as naturally as gravitation acts to a centre."

I think it is very, very sad state to see the Western peoples blame their inability to compete with the Asian countries on "the failure of Capitalism".

So you think individuals should be molded by an economic system rather than the other way around? That people should be doing what capitalism wants them to do, rather than what they want to do? That if we just advocated for a little more corporate penetration, a little more wealth would trickle down?

It sounds like you want to sacrifice humans to please the market (or at least mold them to the market). And if things don't get better how do I know you wont just tell us to sacrifice more, that we didn't slash enough workers' rights.

Capitalism doesn't care about people. So people have no reason to care about capitalism.
