Animals do tend to behave better than humans, except for ducks. I vote for insane robots.

From an ethical standpoint yes.

Animals have more rights than do vegtibles and minerals, but still have fewer rights than members of our own species. So as recipients of ethical treatment humans are cut above. Are therefore 'uber animals'- or non animals - if you will.

Therefore humans have more leagle rights than do animals.

But in most other regards humans are just a type of animal.

A human being amongst alligators has less rights than the alligators grant to each other. Similarly humans amongst lions or humans amongst polar bears or humans swimming with sharks. In these cases we are not only animals; we are lunch.

I can't understand why it is so difficult to single the human out. No other animal on earth acts remotely like the human. No one has as much of a complicated social structure or mauls the environment to this extent. None other suffers from it's own painful conscience like the human. If you really look honestly at the way animals act versus the way humans do, no animal compares to the human, not even the Chimpanzee. In many ways, it's like humans are actually aliens colonizing earth and have been for thousands of years. That's how remote humans are.

Human is human
animal is animal.

Strip away our technology and the language and knowledge accumulated over thousands of years and all you've got is a smart ape with a social hierarchy not dissimilar to that of other troops of apes. If a group of babies grew up on a tropical island without contact with civilisation or other humans and without this accumulated knowledge, language etc you'd see it more clearly.

I remember it well. Poor old Piggy! :pig: There was a gradual descent into tribal behaviour and tribal factions without the adults to guide them. I've heard it said that any so called civilised society is only three meals away from anarchy.

You can't strip it away. Reality takes center stage. Plus, there's human conscience which is very difficult for them. Animals do not have it. Humans suffer more than animals because of it while an animal just acts out of ignorance and because it knows no better. If you take two animals that fight to the death, the winner takes all, there's not penalty from the other animals. None of them lay a guilt trip or try punish the victor. Another contender might challenge but it's not to punish, it's because the contender wants to be the leader. It's law of the jungle.

I think it's fairly clear that humans are an advanced primate and as such are animals. I don't quite see why this would be questioned. If we're not animals, what are we?
Also I think we underestimate the emotional level of animals in general. They can't speak so we assume they are lesser, but we really don't know.

We're HUMANS of course! It's what we are and we should be proud. Humans always want to feel bad about themselves. They always feel unworthy. Why not just accept being human and happy with it?

I'm not getting why admitting that we are animals is akin to feeling bad about ourselves. I think animals are quite wondrous and beautiful.

Because we aren't animal-like. If we were I would agree but I just can't because I have seen too many examples of being human.
