The sad thing is that apparently there's a rhetorical thread now saying the Jews are in Israel because they're insane religious zealots who believe they own the whole joint because the FSM said so. And it doesn't matter how many actual Jews they meet who say, "What the f**k are you talking about? Nobody but the Hasidim believes that s**t, and most of Israel's secular Jews anyway." As long as they can find a Jew who'll say what they want to hear, OMG IT'S A CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE AMONG THE REST.

I guess it feeds into the usual socialist echo chamber: There isn't any longer anti-semitism, so the Jews don't need a country; therefore, if they do hang onto a country, it's for evil/stupid/colonial reasons; also, if there *is* antisemitism, they've brought it on themselves.

Translation: We Christians are good people who know what is good, shut up! It isn't our fault if Jews suck and invite attacks.

I do have a funny story about her and I.I had a sick pet toad so we took the toad to the vet,on the way back she wanted to drop some stuff off at the recycle center.When the man went to get the newspapers out of the back seat,he picked up the brown paper bag that the toad was in(Frodetta was in a plastic container in the bag).I told the man to stop,my pet toad was in the sack.He sure gave us some REALLY strange looks.He thought we were some sort of rolling coven. He kept looking back over his shoulder at us as he walked away.I guess it looked odd,two old biddies driving around with a toad in the car.

A personal and very off-topic question: Tarantella, seriously, is there a type of men dwelling on Earth that you haven't had as ex-bf in your lifetime???

Jews don't suck, and I am not keen on Christianity. I'm secular atheist.

Incidentally, a lot more people are rooting for the Israeli side now than used to. No-one I know politically is rooting for the Palestinians.

I suppose I've been a busy girl! No, no evangelical nutjob...not even any Orthodox Jews. A couple of Catholic-school bad boys, but they were all done being bad when I met them.

I do remember one who seemed the type, but it's possible he was just mentally ill instead. Quite bright, very polite, but had this blazing and kind of scary intensity. I dodged. Which was hard to do when I was working behind a library desk and he kept showing up to sort of grin and breathe at me and make creepy polite conversation.

That's actually been the remarkable media thing about this iteration. Normally the Israelis make loud defenses of their attacks, much of the press reacts with indignation, fin. This time around the cameras have stuck around long enough for something obviously problematic to emerge: these Hamas dudes are crazy, tunnels and everything, rockets stored in UN safe havens. It's also clear that Israel's done as soon as it takes care of what seems a reasonable defense job. The business with killing all those civilians is obviously still a serious problem, but that can't be solved without international help.

As much as I hate the zionists, I must say I respect them... I mean, for centuries they commit to such an way that... just look at them today... There is almost no one in this planet that got in their way without facing the consequences...

If a great number of good people could commit to an objective like they do, even playing their dirty game, maybe we wouldn't be needing to pay for something we don't need.

But looks like money, greed and power can infect almost everyone.
