I was wondering if there is some sort of aspie logo we could put in our shop fronts, software splash screens, etc, to show a business is aspie friendly or aspie run?

If not, would someone like to submit a design to the public domain to promote our people by letting us find and support each other in the real world?

Cause we are kind of a secret society.

I'd suggest an autism logo, or even more inclusive, a special needs logo to show friendly shops/places. That way no one feels left out.

Maybe a logo for each.
Many aspies resent aspergers being put on the AS and in many countries it's not considered the same thing.

But I think it would be good to have one for each and display either or both depending what you identify as.

I hope this doesn't sound offensive as I see from your profile that you are not officially diagnosed but I've noticed that most of the aspies who object to it being merged with ASD seem to be self-diagnosed. But factually, Asperger's is a pervasive developmental disorder with too much in common with HFA for them to be separate diagnoses. I think other diagnostic criteria like the ICD are soon going to follow suit of the DSM because of all the similarities between the two.

Asperger's is professionally recognised as a mild form of autism. Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder. Therefore, Asperger's is a pervasive developmental disorder.

"Asperger syndrome (AS) is an autism spectrum disorder..."
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/asperger/detail_asperger.htm

"Asperger?s syndrome is a developmental neurobiological disorder that is usually diagnosed in children after age three, characterized by severe deficits in social interactions and communicative abilities, and strange behaviors. The disorder falls under the umbrella term of autism spectrum disorders, which also includes five similar disorders, including autism, and pervasive developmental disorders not otherwise specified. Hans Asperger, a Viennese child psychologist, published the first definition of this disorder under the name of 'autistic psychopathy'."

"Asperger Syndrome is one of five ?Pervasive Developmental Disorders? (PDDs)."

Except it is.
Quote:
Asperger syndrome is a term applied to a condition characterized by persistent impairment in social interactions and by repetitive behavior patterns and restricted interests. Once generally regarded as a discrete disorder, it is categorized as a form of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the American Psychiatric Association?s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5).[1]...

Quote:
The DSM-IV currently identifies a set of Pervasive Developmental Disorders that are considered ?autism spectrum disorders? (ASDs). These include Autistic Disorder, Asperger?s Disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). The DSM-IV has been under revision for several years and a new edition, the DSM-V, will be released in 2013. Significant changes to the criteria and categories of ASDs are planned for the new edition. As a parent it is important that you be well informed, so we will review the proposed changes and their possible implications.

Given your response, I'll just take that as a compliment.
Thank you! :]

Oh what clever wit you have, I'm sure it impresses everyone you meet. Perhaps when I pointed out your BS that too was part of a horrid, unwelcome disorder I have.

I would have liked if they merged it but that is not what they did. The subsumed it like predator animal subsuming it's prey. What I know noticed is that this only happened when the 'Aspies" got to uppity and stated organizing and dared to challenge the idea that they were disordered. People like me after not knowing for decades who I was finding out due to the Aspergers Label and feeling good about it. Oh how wrong, how dare I. If people do not feel they are broken there is less need "professional help".

I do understand why people after reading the above will believe that I feel that way because I don't want to be associated with LFA. I do understand people that identify with Aspergers have been SUCCESSFULLY STIGMATIZED with that and other negative beliefs. If you believe that about me, read my diagnosis and how I identify below.

I suspect now that the life has been taken out of the Aspergers idea the idea of a broad spectrum itself will be the next target.

Oh, poor paraphrasing and ad hominem attacks. Real mature

The DSM is not the only diagnostic tool that classifies AS as an ASD (and by extension, a pervasive developmental disorder).

"Asperger's syndrome (AS) is an autism spectrum disorder. It is milder than autism but shares some of its symptoms."
http://www.icd10data.com/ICD10CM/Codes/ ... F84-/F84.5

You can ignore the facts all you want. It doesn't change anything.

I didn't use ad hominem, taking the DSM as fact or anyone that does the same, is uneducated. Just like it's uneducated to blindly link pages from google without understanding its content. People aren't immature for pointing out the BS....

No the DSM is not credible and nowhere near factual. Nor should the bible be considered to have a factual cure for leprosy.

Calling us uneducated because we disagree with you (and have sources supporting us) is ad hominem. You are attacking our education levels with no actual rebuttal to our statements.

The last link I posted is from the ICD 10, which is recognized by the World Health Organization for diagnosis of AS/ASD.

No, no it isn't, I explained why it's not, plus you saying I'm attacking your education level is ad hominem in the form of a straw man.

ICD has no experience in the field of Asperger's, it's the same as getting an electrician to chime in on Asperger's. Tell me, how much bird blood do I need to cure leprosy? Does the size of the bird matter?
