Wow. I'm not sure how I would respond to that. What does it take for a cop to get fired nowadays?

It doesn't seem like a cop can get fired nowadays.

What are you saying?! Teh poor Christians are being oppressed! Oppressed, I say! It is the cop's freedom of speech to proselytize as he's handing out tickets!
(/sarcasm).

This is beyond unprofessional, you can't use work time to had out pamphlets for your church. Also he is a civil servant.

By all mean in is spare time hand out leaflets. As long as he is not using the patrol car, siren, etc.

I was actually in the car as a kid one time when a cop pulled my mom over to ask her out on a date; she thought it was funny at the time, but got angrier about it the more she thought about it. This would have been in the late 80s, so this sort of thing wasn't even on the public radar yet.

Quote:
Ellen Bogan was rolling down U.S. 27 in Union County, Indiana when she was pulled over for a traffic violation. The state trooper let her off with a warning, but not before asking some bizarrely unprofessional questions:
Did she have a home church?
Did she accept Jesus Christ as her savior?

Well, on the bright side I guess it was better than getting a ticket, BUT that kind of conduct has no place in law enforcement or any other public service.

It's such an abuse of power. He had her as a captive audience since she was afraid to leave until he was done. There is the implied threat that she if she just pulled away mid-spiel that she could have gotten in legal trouble. I hope he gets fired.

If she had one of those cheesy bumper stickers that said"Jesus is my co-pilot," maybe she wouldn't have got stopped. :D I mean if Jesus is riding shotgun then it should be safe to text and drive, hell, even crack open a beer.

Or, she could have simply told him Jesus had just been driving, and so any such traffic infraction she had been pulled over for was no longer illegal!

Or if she had had an overtly freethinking or pro-science bumper sticker, would she have been hauled in to jail so that the local law would have more time to work on her? For the sake of her own soul, of course.

Typical cop thinks he's a genius and in fine bully fashion forces someone to listen to their drivel.

What's new?

Usually cops have better things to do that lecture people, except where it concern personal safety and or the law. Maybe in a small town perhaps, with little to do.

It is unprofessional whatever the doctrine. it is simply nothing to do with the job, and abuse of power.

"Maybe in a small town perhaps, with little to do."

Chicago?

Plus the average LEO's idea of what constitutes the law changes from officer to officer to department to state
and their ideas are not necessarily the truth but they will make you try to believe otherwise. I've seen and
experienced this in small and large cities. If you haven't, good for you, but please don't try to refute me with
a lack of knowledge.
