what a randian reprobate. :x apparently, according to her admission, the "little people" who voted for her must not matter at all, and black folk matter even less. only CEOs matter to her.

From the article:

Quote:
?What I can tell you is over the last three and a half years, I spent a lot of my days on the phone with CEOs and recruiting jobs to this state,? the governor noted. ?I can honestly say I have not had one conversation with a single CEO about the Confederate flag.?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see you don't want CEO's of big corporations that will be bringing jobs to S. Carolina to have issues with anything about the state including the confederate flag, the idea being to attract new business. This was about the flying of the confederate flag at the state capital or wherever. I think that to most all people worthy of casting a vote that having jobs and money come to their state takes precedence WAY over a little bit of manufactured offense over some flag. At least half of that ?offense? is probably from white liberals who like to come off as wishing they were black.

I didnt take the time to read the rest of the article since it was apparent in the first few paragraphs that the whole thing is just partizan whining.

WTF? Nikki Haley is a woman and an Indian so I would think the left, who likes to have us all believe they?re all about equality, women?s rights, minority rights, etc., would give her even a reluctant nod of approval but I guess all that doesn't count unless one is a democrat. It says a lot about the left that?s not very flattering.....

This actually the Official Flag of the Confederacy, well originally anyway.
http://www.usflag.org/historical/stars.bars.gif
What we call The Confederate Flag was originally just one of the many Battle Flags carried by the Southern Regiments until 1863 when the official flag became what we now know today as the Confederate Flag

@Raptor, I think your missing the point. The OP seems to be upset at what I assume they perceive as that Particular Politician only caring what CEOs seem to think of the Flag.

Honestly I don't see why your so hostile to people having a problem with the flag. While you may not perceive the flag as negative or representing something negative the fact is quite a few Americans do since this was/is a Flag carried by supporters of Jim Crow, The Klu Klux Klan, and many other racist organizations past and present. Now let me make this clear I'm NOT accusing you of being racist or being racially bigoted for the having views you do. But for a large number of Black Americans this Flag is essentially salt in what are for them still deep cultural wounds. After all there are still plenty of people left alive who were young around the Final Days of Jim Crow.
Lastly, what is wrong with white liberals getting upset at the site of the flag ? There were plenty of white people(mostly white liberals) who marched alongside black people to end what was obviously an unjust and racist power structure in the south. The dismantling of Jim Crow was a victory for white liberal allies just like it was black Civil Rights activists.

to those who bring up the woman and indian thing, they conveniently ignore the fact that she climbed the ladder of success and is pulling the ladder up behind her so that nobody else may follow, per GOP platform of coddling CEOS while starving the rest. the patently false "trickle down" meme can't go away soon enough.

All true, but prohibiting things like the CSA flag by law has the opposite effect many times. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica "Postwar German law banned the sale and public display of books espousing Nazi philosophy. Even at the end of the 20th century, the foreign publication of Mein Kampf brought condemnation both in Germany and the countries where the book was published, not least because of its popularity with neo-Nazi groups, especially those that arose in Germany in the 1990s. There also was great concern in some circles over the availability of this book from Internet-based booksellers." Despite its symbolism of intolerance, Mein Kampf has found continued sales success in the very nation that had spawned it, then banned its publication and ownership since 1945, and will now repeal the ban. Recent news of its planned republication in Germany when the copyright expires next year http://www.thelocal.de/20140625/germany ... -kampf-ban is the equivalent of a white-flag surender to reality.

I don't think anyone wants to ban the flag, just acknowledge that it represents slavery and racism. And maybe don't use it in government any more.

By the way, CEOs aren't the main driver of job creation.

And, how should we not "use it in government" without banning it? The South Carolina government spent the last decade debating doing just that.

The flag that we understand to be the Confederate flag was just banned in California http://ww2.kqed.org/news/2014/09/26/con ... California a few weeks ago. It remains very much a national debate. Watch how fast it becomes a political statement for various candidates and groups.

Oddly, the flag wasn't the Confederate flag. The Confederate State of America used three flag styles during its existence. None of them were what we know to be the CSA flag. The flag we recognize https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_ ... erate_flag was actually a battle flag for "the Army of Northern Virginia under General Lee."

tell that to the maddening voters who keep voting GOPTP and screwing themselves over when the GOPTP pols predictably vote en bloc to ship yet more jobs overseas and cut pay/benefits of the jobs that remain here.

but the main point of this thread, is that the GOP only thinks bigwigs matter. everybody else is just a "useless eater" according to them. nikki haley was just stupid/arrogant enough to come right out and say it.

Yep, there were several confederate flags.

@StagtheStalker, the OP is upset because the governor of South Carolina is a republican. I've been down this road with the "OP" on multiple occasions and the gist of it is: Republican/conservative=BAD.

Quote:
Honestly I don't see why your so hostile to people having a problem with the flag.

Hostile? More like in a constant state of amazement over how far manufactured offense can go, although by now I shouldn't be. More on manufactured offense later.

Quote:

And if those klan members and whatever as a group showed a preference for Ford automobiles and Folgers coffee would that make Ford and Folgers symbols of oppression?

Quote:
Now let me make this clear.....

Oh, I can't wait!

Quote:
.....I'm NOT accusing you of being racist or being racially bigoted for the having views you do.

My "views" in this case don't have diddly to do with any flag.

Quote:

Uh huh, and most of those that were around in the segregation era are over it. I've known several and it's not them voicing the outrage.

The dismantling of Jim Crow was a victory for white liberal allies just like it was black Civil Rights activists.

And most of them wish we could go back to that era so they could actually have a cause to rally around and not have to rely almost solely on (as promised) manufactured offense.

This whole thing is about the governor ot S. Carolina stating that the CEO's of companies that the state (with the help of a republican governor) want to attract to the state not having an issue with the confederate flag. If the people of S. Carolina had an issue with that flag it would be taken up in another venue.

You haven't the slightest hint of a shadow of a clue what that means.

This Objectivist agrees with the libertarian quoted up the linkstream:

Quote:
Independent libertarian candidate Steve French said that he believed in the concept of ?individual liberty? when it came to the Confederate flag.

?So, if you want to paint your house in the Confederate flag, I am completely fine with that,? he remarked.

But French disagreed with Haley when it came to businesses, saying that he had spoken with entrepreneurs who refused to move to South Carolina because the state was perceived as a ?backwoods good ol? boy network.?

?And that flag, I think, represents a lot of division in this state, and we need to be coming together,? French observed.

I don't live in SC so I don't know very much about their governor. Are there no democrats guilty keeping their seat all to themselves for ever and ever? Ted "Chappaquiddick" Kennedy comes to mind and it took death to finally unseat that pickled old Irish fart or he'd still be in office.

Um, I think the reason she was "coddling" the CEO's is to bring jobs to her state. You know, where some people do this thing called earning a living......
This is just one article I found but there are more.

It only represents slavery and racism to those on both sides who want it to, It was actually a battle flag and only a battle flag.

sigh. the flag is blatantly representative [to people of color] of jim crow, no matter what professed intention confed flag wavers spout. the fact that said confeds refuse to acknowledge this FACT tells me they do have a problem being civil with people of color. their actions speak louder than their words. for once I would like to hear one of them say loud and proud what he or she really thinks of colored folk, unabashedly. there is nothing worse than people peeing on one's leg and then getting told it is only raining.

and jobs are created primarily by people who buy things. NOTHING in life trickles down except for rain and woes, job creation is a PERCOLATE UP kind of deal. when you allow companies to pay a non-living wage, you are not helping the economy, henry ford knew this, which is why he paid his workers a living wage. today's sort of GOP should listen to such wise men of the past and not people like the current crop of GOP robberbarrons.

And where did I say anything about "trickle down economics"? I could be mistaken but don't think I've ever championed that in these forums.
