Ok, some users here said that flirts don't 't necessarily reflect any romantic/sexual interest - not even on subconscious level, and that it can be just something that colleagues/coworkers do for fun...etc - fine.

if it's this the case then why you straight flirty people don't flirt people of the same sex of yours? Or with your siblings? or your parents? Why being discriminate in your flirting - you have no sexual/romantic interest in them either way, right? Justify this now.

I only flirt if I feel sexually attracted to someone.

I believe people have fun flirting--but I tend to believe there is a subconscious "attraction" motivation behind it.

Is the sly wink a universal flirty sign for women?
In one circumstance I know the woman was flirting with me, and waiting for me to make some overture as to how we could 'get together'. In the other case, I'm still wondering why she did the sly wink. She was married to a bloke who also worked in our department at work. Was it the fact that I spoke to her on a regular basis? That I complimented her dress? She was very thin, and my work mates all referred to her as "Olive Oyl."

Just had some of this today. Behavior that elsewhere Id consider flirty but it never goes forward. My thoughts are it must just be subconscious or simply how that person acts.
Or I'm that bad at reading people

I think they just enjoy making playful comments and getting noticed, even if they're not seriously interested - maybe just admiring, same as window shoppers. I don't buy they there's absolutely nothing to it, either. There's a reason it's flirting and not plain old banter or teasing.

If a persons flirting style often encourages others to make a move on them, would you want to be with that person? My answer to that question is no. Especially if that flirty person knows what they are doing and knows it could cause trouble.

Yeah....it could get frustrating--all the coquetry! Especially from a lady with dainty fingers!

I would only flirt if I was attracted to someone. Otherwise it is teasing.

I only flirt if I like the guy in a more than just friends manner. I don't even casually touch guys that I don't feel some kind of attraction to. Some women do. Not me. I just don't feel the need to.

Hmm I'm thinking perhaps because people want to keep the flirting at least somewhat within the socially acceptable boundaries. Even if the flirting is just FOR fun, that doesn't mean it isn't inherently sexual in nature. So it would feel wrong to flirt with someone who it is inappropriate to be sexually attracted to, such as family. And presumably it wouldn't be fun.

Because flirting is a first-check of interest towards potential partners. At least it is for me. I have no sexual intent whatsoever. Since you have no romantic interest in parents or siblings, you don't flirt with them. That applies to same sex individuals as well if you are straight.

So all these flirty messages/vibes you were sending to me were just for fun?

Um, I'm pretty sure their only justification needs to be heterosexuality & an opposition to incest. Pretty simple.

Eh, I've seen women 'flirt' with other women - both are straight. Guys do weird social grooming things, too.

Yes, guys do.

Like throwing a playful punch, or even sharing a high five. Heck, there's a couple of very straight guys at work that call me either "beautiful," or "pretty," or "sexy," once or twice a shift. They talk to each other, female staff, other male staff etc like this. It's all in good natured fun and is simply a sign of a comfortable working relationship. Plus it's all a little funny. I wouldn't call it flirting AT ALL, because it's known full well that it isn't.. but it is just one of those weird social grooming things guys do in friendships/bonding etc.
