I have two p.e. classes which are not problem.

I have two computer classes which are driving me CRAZY!

Today's class... which is just now starting and I'm still at home in my robe... is Digital Media.
We are using Adobe Illustrator for the first half of the semester and Photoshop for the second.

The prof is nice and all, but he has us go through these examples and keeps going with the project.
I'm struggling to pay attention, although I can do the work.

Last Wednesday at class, I finally just put on my headphones and worked on my own, I was so frustrated.

I'm not blaming him, I just need to get my mind in synch with school

My other class is Intro to Programming in which we use the program ALICE.
This one is has two profs 'joint-teaching' it... both in the classroom at the same time and taking turns lecturing or demo'ing.
WOW is that confusing sometimes!

For this class, I just get that glazed-over feeling... HELP ME! I'M DROWNING!... and sometimes I just go on and work on my own ALICE stuff peering up to see what they're onto now, every now-and-then.
I've already turned every assignment in late so far.

None of this is difficult for me.. it's just getting my mind to absorb the pattern of going to school... if that makes any sense.

Anyone else have a hard time getting started in the semester?

I may talk to my profs if I don't get things straightened out this week on my own.
I've already warned them that I may appear to not care about the class, but I do care and will be working on most of this stuff on my own... I buy whatever program we use in class (when I can afford it), so I can do most of the stuff in my own unique setting... i.e. headphones, rocking, visual stimulation blocking...

I'm in an Intro to Programming class and working with Alice too. It is pretty fun to work with, but my teacher is crazy. I am also having problems getting settled into the semester. But my biggest problem class is English.

I have the same teacher from last semester, and she is great and all, but I hate it when she makes us get into small groups, which is everyday. We also have to write 3 5-page essays and write weekly 1-page summaries of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

This is my first year at college and it is hard to get used to. In high school the classes were spread out over the whole school year, but now it is all crammed into 1 semester.

I have skipped my last two English classes and I have class tomorrow, which I will probably skip too. I am also late on my 1st essay and book readings. I just feel overloaded with information. I have to keep up 15-16 hours each semester because of my degree program and financial aid, but it feels like too much to me.

I also enjoy working on my own. I like my computer classes, but I wish I could take just them. I hate the general ed classes like English and Algebra and History. I am rethinking my situation and want to find a better way to continue my education.

I remember last semester I had problems settling in too and by the time I finally did it was about half over. So don't worry, you are not the only one. Hopefully we will both get it worked out.

Thank you.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Alice is fun... except when it gets a bit glitchy.

I've talked with my profs today and they all seem understanding... but I still lost some points for turning in late work.. but then again, I am happy to take responsibility for that.

You have quite a full load!
Can you parse out your GE over the next 2 yrs? to help make it easier?
I found history to be a breeze, but speech and algebra were the ones I struggled to keep up with.
I understand the subject material, but I have had a hard time maintaining focus... which is what one of my instructors said today in the Alice class... "We've just got to keep you on focus!" LOL

I think school gets better after the GE stuff also.
I hope you make it through alright this semester.

as someone who only has 2 GE classes left (and has just about finished their core courses) I can tell you, once the GE classes are gone, you should have smoother sailing, because it actually gets interesting. If i could have just taken all my business courses and skipped the GE I would have loved it. Just make sure to talk to the profs when you are having issues.. even if it is just an e-mail. if you guys are Dx'd you might be able to get away with not going to normal class time and putting in "quiet" lab hours.

Good idea, but I do get alot from my classes.
This time around it really is just my lagging behind until I can get my mind used to the idea I am in school and adding it to my daily routine.
As far as the in-class lectures and work... I am in contact with my instructors and I'll keep on working on things.
Today was a good day and I imagine tomorrow will be also... especially since I got my homework turned in on time! cheers

For anyone taking a class using ALICE for and intro to programming course, definitely check out the website alice.org... it reall gives me some good info and ideas.

There's also a guy who's a teacher at Austin Community College who is the ALICE instructor there and he has his own website with tutorials and great info.
