I also bought System of a Down's "Mezmerize." It's different than their other albums but I like it. Every song is great, however the album is too short.

My favourite SOAD album is Toxicity. I was a bit disappointed when I listened to Steal this Album!
How would you describe Mesmerize? Is it more like Toxicity (I find it very melodious) or more like Steal this Album! ?

It's a departure from their previous stuff. It's a lot more random and quirky. But rather brilliant. You have to listen to the album a few times to appriciate it.

I actually quite like all SOAD's albums but my favourites are Toxicity and Steal This Album- I thought that the Highway Song and Roulette were brilliant.

Yeah, I prefer Toxicity over all the rest. Steal This Album! was good, I loved a few of the songs on it, but I think that Mezmerize and Hyptonize should have been on the same cd (there's plenty of room to fit both on there) instead of breaking it up and releasing them both in the later half of last year. Then they'd have one long cd instead of two short ones. Rolling Eyes But I guess you can't really do anything about that. All of them are still worth listening to though Wink

I loved Mezmerize - and SOAD isn't my usual 'sound of choice' either. It was only album I heard last year that both had something worth saying as well as knowing how to say it. If that makes sense.

I~ have Hypnotize and Toxicity... Hypnotize is too short, and I wish a lot of bands had longer CDs, but that's beside the point. I think they've got such an interesting sound, and I can't say I wasn't addicted to both BYOB and Hypnotize, as well as Chop Suey!

They're a lot of fun, and I can't tell you how much I love to listen to Vicinity of Obscenity because of the weird voice things they do... and it's also fun to say, "bananabananabananabananaterracottabananaterracotta terracotta pie."

You can't beat that.

I don't know why this band ever got as popular as they have done there abit of a joke old "syndrome of a down" as there sometimes referred too. I clearly missed the wagon everyone got on with this band.

And their politics are about as serious as One Minute Silence who were abit of a joke from the outset as well.

I don't know about you, but I consider social commentary on genocide pretty serious stuff.
As for the length of it, it's only one half of a double album! That's why you think it's short.
Steal this album isn't that good because it's a compilation of random stuff they didn't put on any of the albums.
Wait... I knew I came in here for something.... yes... the band is superb! Cool

Chop Suey is a decent song, but I haven't liked anything I've heard by them.

SOAD are one of my favourites, they are diverse, different and talented, they don't stick with the same old generic metal formula and blend different styles and sounds-Serj [in particular] is a very skilled vocalist,he pushes through a lot of energy and is competent in all forms of vocal style.
They can go from serious issues to random with ease,eg "All research and successful drug policy show that treatment should be increased, and law enforcement decreased, while abolishing mandatory..minimun sentences...utilising drugs to pay for secret wars around the world drugs are now your global policy now you police the globe...I buy my crack,I smack my b***h,right here in hollywood........drug money is used to rig elections and train brutal corporate sponsored dictators around the world.." to "...I hope your stepson doesn't eat the fish...".
SOAD are one of the few strong, worthwhile bands the Kerrang TV channel still bothers to show, but even then it's usually always Chop Suey.
