I tried it a few times, but it defeated the object in that one of me would have to play below my level, or it was always a stalemate.
Due to the way I play that kind of game, I think about what the other person will do, when I am the other person I already know beforehand... |

Hell yeah.
Half the time because I didn't have anyone to play with.
I've tried to play chess with myself.. card games with myself, school playground games with myself (pretend), elastics with myself (the kitchen chair helped a bit though), knucklebones with myself, I could go on forever.
Nowdays you've got the good old computer to do it with you (chess and cards, i mean) _________________ The www will take you to paradise. |

Yes, ever since I was a little kid. Cribbage, even bridge for 4 people
Now we have computers that can simulate other players, and that's so much better. I sometimes play bridge against the computer.
One game that I can't imagine playing by yourself is "go fish" |

I never got past the 'parallel play' stage. _________________ <a href="http://www.kia-tickers.com><img src="http://www.kia-tickers.com/bday/ticker/19901105/+0/4/1/name/r55/s37/bday.png" border="0"> </a> |

Playing Go by yourself is interesting because there are advantages and disadvantages to going first (generally given to weaker player) and symmetrical play is broken once somebody takes the middle star point

| when i play gw games i tried it, the problem being I could anticipate my moves so no tactics were involved - you need another human to add variation on your mind in any game that is not pure luck. |

As a child/adolescent I played games all the time that were designed for multiple players.
I suppose it's because you have control and don't have to deal with the 'social' aspect of playing games.
I used to play chess using two different styles as a child. Never kept it up because you can't really use any strategy beyond rote positional play against yourself.
As an adolescent I used to design scenarios for roleplaying games. This would include designing areas, maps, buildings, vehicles, weather systems, climates, ecosystems, societies (from villages up to cities and nations). I would plan everything meticulously and then design a scenario to play in. Needless to say, I never played them with anyone. _________________ To the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee. |

| I've tried playing chess by myself, as well as some other games. Didn't work too well, though. |

Yeah, I tried that too. Couldn't manage it, took the fun out of it... and with no local GW, I ended up just wiping my brother's forces across the board. Over and over. Repeatedly.
It got tiring...
I play chess against myself a bit, mind. But I tend to leave a while inbetween moves. Like, I open it, then half an hour later come back, because you don't have to remember complex things (wounds left, etc) with chess. Just whose turn it is. |

Yes, I did-not now, but growing up. Board games such as Chinese Checkers, Bonkers, or Connect Four. I would play them w/my Father, but since I only saw him on the weekend, during the week I'd play alone. Cards, also-double solitaire (called "Spite & Malice" by girl who taught it to me).
Didn't get along so great w/peers, but would've rather played with someone else instead of just me. On the other hand, if I was only one playing, then at least I'd always win (as well as always lose)-but didn't have to be a good sport about it towards another person !
Didn't have computer games back then (well, I didn't-others did), as an adult I've gotten addicted to playing a few video games by myself so I stopped altogether. I still think about them, knowing I want to play them but that if I did, my interest in anything else would shrivel/disappear. _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |
