Ok I'm off to find a job. I've cut everything from my resume that makes me sound overqualified. I hope I can get a job in a nice, clean office that way.
wish me luck : D |

I went to a staffing agency, took the office skills tests, (apparently i type at 70wpm wow!) and gave them my scaled down resume. I got an offer within 2 days for part time work. Data Entry. Unfortunately someone in my house was on the phone when they called and they moved on to the next candidate.
At least I know they're looking and not just blowing smoke like some of these places do.
More later. |

Nothing yet, unfortunately. Just lots of happy talk followed by no call backs.
I put in an application at a second temp agency that has a better reputation than the previous one.
Now to wait and see. |

| This question probably sounds silly, but why are you looking for an inferior job? |

Because those are the only jobs available around here. If I wanted to go back to redacting/translating/writing i'd move back to taipei, but i dont want to do that. |

I got a call today, not from an agency, but from a real estate company. I applied for the job because it was advertised as a clerical position, and no further details were given.
Apparently what they're really looking for is someone to come in at the ground level as a clerk, learn the business and eventually go into management track position.
I had to tell them in all honestly that I could commit to working hard for them for 2 or 3 years, but that I couldn't honestly offer a long term commitment and I wasn't at all interested in becoming a manager.
Once again, employers around here seem only to want people who will commit to a lifetime of service and admit to no ambition beyond the company business.
Should I start lying? |

It is not easy to move into a management position. Maybe they have yet lied to you about it. |

Do they know this? Perhaps not... so they think that you are like other employees. |
