| i never found a reason to start drinking alcohol. most people start it so they can fit among their teen friends who like to pretend they are adults and they don't even like their first glass. since i never had this need i never started drinking alcohol nor smoke cigarettes. i found the same reason for alcohol abstinence in a blog of one of the aspies here at wrongplanet. is it more common among us? how is it with you? |

Count me in with the abstinance group.
Drugs don't do anything in my brain. I might be able trick myself into that but I don't see any point in that anyways.

It shouldn't be. On the other hand, a lot of aspies out there have a lot of problems.
If I got into stuff like that, I would have a big story behind all the mess I have fallen into to do that. Its always been my goal to do abstinance. So far, I have accomplished that.
I think that people would really hate to see me get into doing a bunch of B.S like that. |

so you do things without any reason? people ask me to drink with them, i know i didn't like the first glass like most of them and i just don't see the point in forcing myself. |

| I drink a glass of wine every night, sometimes 2, but it's because I love the taste. I used to have mixed drinks and beer occasionally, but I stopped because those are just a bunch of empty calories. Wine has health benefits at least. |

I've probably posted this in another thread, because I know there have been others about alcohol...
But, I am 23 and I have never tasted alcohol. Some other things I don't drink: Anything with caffeine, caramel-colour (colas), sugar that is not naturally occurring, (natural juice=yes, sodas and fakey sweetened fruit drinks=no), or red dye.
Also I have never smoked anything legal or illegal, nor have I even seen an illegal drug. _________________ "Never injure what cannot die" |

I tried it didn't work out with any of them... I mean, some things are drinkable but if i could choose between something alcoholic and for example simple water, i prefer the water. the point is getting used to the new taste you didn't experience before were allowed to drink alcohol. some people like it from beginning but many had to be forcing themself to get used to it. i suspect that some aspies would not go through that process because of their condition. |

well if you tried them all, then i would say you are well on yr way to enjoying it.
ive not seen not liking alcohol in any diagnostic criteria |

| When I start drinking I don't stop untill I'm unconcious, which has landed me in hospital so I try to avoid it as much as possible. Usually slip up though and drink twice or so a year. |

I don't drink because I don't really want to. When I have had alcohol, I have unusually severe reactions to it - even though I've only every had very small quantities and on only a few occasions. (Although I've since found out that my liver has lower than average quantities of certain enzymes and I now have to take this enzyme in supplement form - so this might be connected.)
Also, I'm on a lot of meds so can't have alcohol anyway.
And I kind of see it as poision - like recreational drugs and I don't want to poison myself and although I respect each persons individual choice, I still struggle to understand why others would want to poison themselves. |
