| I just wanted to say hello to everyone here. I found out about this website from the Wikipedia website. I'm in my mid-30's and am a lifelong resident of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area (i.e. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota). I have to be honest in that I had never even heard of Asperger's Syndrome until I had heard on the news that songwriter Burt Bacharach's daughter had it and that singer Gary Numan has it himself. It's finally a relief to discover that I'm not alone. |

Hello Redbird!
Welcome to Wrong Planet. I learned about Asperger's Syndrome last October when I heard an NPR article on All Things Considered, and took the test, cause it sounded just like me. I was at the time so you can imagine the shock. . and the realization that I finally had an answer for the question I had heard all my life "what is YOUR problem??"
I love the TC, lived there for several years in the late 90s on the Whole Foods side of Lake Calhoun. Loved it but couldn't hack the winters. It was all that white.
Enjoy yourself here, don't get sucked in and make it your new obsession, but you can learn a lot!

| Welcome to WP! I've known about AS for over about 10 years now. However, even today I learn new things about AS from sources such as this website or Wikipedia. |

I found nearly universal acceptance, which I consider rare for me, in the TC and in Minnesota as a whole. They understand the 'shy genius' syndrome very well and of the places I have lived in and traveled to, they are the most appreciative of education and intellectual prowess.
I just could NOT handle the winters. . . too much white, to bright. . yikes!

| I would just like to say to sinsboldly that I see their point about the Twin Cities and Minnesota winters. I've always said that if the Twin Cities gets too frigid and if I had the money, I've love to live part-time in San Francisco or Northern California, as their weather doesn't tend to get too extreme. For the most part, the Twin Cities is good to people like myself, although it does get irritating at work when you're in the parking lot and people sometimes talk to you in a condescending matter, which really bugs me to death. |

Wow, is that really true? I am planning to migrate to Minneapolis when I have the money some day! Seems like it is a perfect choice all along!
Supercold winters, auspie-friendly people....man I couldn't ask for more! |

Hello. Glad you found WP. It's the IN place to be. I worked in the Twin Cities for several years as an IT contractor. I love the work ethic. "You're different? Ok. I need you to..." I met a lot of people who grew up on nearby farms, and they got up early, worked hard, and didn't let BS get in the way of the work. I really miss that. Hope you like it here. _________________ To eliminate poverty, you have to eliminate at least three things: time, the bell curve and the Pauli Exclusion Principle. Have fun. |

I also worked in the Twin Cities as an IT contractor! I loved it there, the people seemed to appreciate education and intelligence, and I was not the only 'shy, withdrawn' person in their universe! Everyone seemed to have an uncle or grandfather like me. They have no idea what a fine little paradise they have there. I couldn't hack the white in the winters. too white. The snow, well I didn't know how they just thought the snow was ok to stay all over all the roads and sidewalks and you just climbed over it and kept on truckin'. Never could get used to that.
Anyway, I loved the people and the Cities! I would go back to visit, but not in the winter! Glad you found us here on WP!
