I was just wondering if AS makes it harder to drive I am 27 and have only recently received my Learners permit. How old were you when you got your licence and if you dont have one why not?

I first started taking driving lessons when I was in my 30s, but never got my license. I have to try for it again. I think I can do it this time.

i drive a car only once a year, when i am back to my home country visiting my family. i got the driving license at 24 years of age (three years ago). i enjoy driving on highways with a good car passing the other slower cars. Smile although, i don't see that the other people siting next to me are scared, however they always tell me after. Smile i do follow all restrictions, though. in cities i am slower than anybody else i know.

In Australia you have to be 18 to get your license. I was 20 when I first tried and failed the practical driving test, and 22 when I finally got it. Learning to drive was really difficult for me, I had to spend a fortune on lessons before I got the hang of it.

Well, I've always been able to drive without trouble..., it's the written test that gets me.

i have taken the drivers test about 5 times.
When i was 20 or so, I took an Adult drivers ed course.
My teacher hated me and i hated my teacher.
I more or less failed the course.
I have had numerous friends try to teach me.
I scraped up the car of one roommate who was drunk and insisted that I drive her to the dollar store.
I drove Flakey's van into a ditch.
etc..etc..etc...

I am frightened just being a passenger in a car. Sad

I would take to driving if only it wasn't so scary.

I got my learners permit at 16 and my license at 17 I remember failing the driving test twice and going 50 mph in the fast lane the first time I drove on the highway. There are a lot of things I hate about driving and I wish I lived where there was a subway but I guess there are things I hate about that too.

I passed my test at 18 but I had lessons from my 17th birthday up till then and passed at the 4th attempt. Nerves during the test were the main problem.

I did everything by the book, I guess.

In those long ago days before I even knew about AS, I got my learner's permit at 16. I drove around by myself for ages (which you're not allowed to do on a lerner's permit). Then when I turned 18 I got my driver's license.

I never really was aware that anything was wrong with my driving skills. I had some problems but I was so damn excited about getting out of the house and away from my crazy mother that I was too elated to pay attention to anything that may be wrong. All I knew was that I was always overly critical and overly observant when I drove. Always so nervous when I drove. I live in a pretty small city so driving here in town was never really that busy or too crowded. But I realized that there was something really wrong when I drove in larger cities with vast 6 lane wide highways. Under those driving conditions I realized I was over my head, so to speak. It was then I realized my shortcomings in my driving skills.

And now I know all about AS so all my secret troubles with driving make sense.

Man, I remember being so utterly terrified during my actual driver's license test that I screwed up the backing up porting of the test. And I was so nervous I literally could not write my name. It was literally chicken scratch. I wish I still had that license. Else I would happily show it. It was funny to look at. Because otherwise my handwriting is overly neat.

I got my license at 17.....It's been 33 years of terror since. Well, let me qualify that by saying that Interstate driving isn't a problem. It's when I get into dense city driving that the wheels begin to fall off for me.

I think it's a sensory overload issue for me. Parked cars, pedestrians, lane changes, construction, detours, one-way streets, taxi cabs, buses, and too many signs that don't give me enough information when I need it to process and make a decision, etc. Shocked And there's always some impatient ass ready to take me on for the slightest perceived transgression. I find it all too stressful indeed. Sad

I got my lisence at 22.
I am about to turn 23 next month.
In the Netherlands you have to be 18 to start taking driving lessons.
At 19 i first started taking lessons.
But i had a driving instructor that was gonna try and get me it as quick as my brother.
I had only just started and already he wanted me to do so many things.
I couldn't even pay attention to the road due to paying too much attention to the gears etc.

I got a close call to an accident because i couldn't watch the road.
I quit it than until i was 21.
Took lessons again this time in an automatic car.
Things went much better, although driving in the big city all the time was a pain.
I passed me theory exam with 0 mistakes.
Few months later i did the real thing with a perfect drive as well.
The examinator said it was rare how well i did it.
The main reason was because i am the type that can shut out nervousness, and just stay real calm when it matters.
This is the key to success.
