What catagory were you placed under?
I was under the "other health impaired" not "autism" despite my diagnoses. |

I was listed Autistic on IEP documents although I was in an L.D. room in the regular schools and a TMI room in the Special Ed Schools

Probably communicatively handicapped. I remember having to go to those meetings with my folks. And I still had no clue what was wrong with me then until the 10th grade in HS.

I think it was under "gifted," actually. At my old school in Kansas City, gifted/talented resources were placed under the blanket of special ed, which meant that everyone in the gifted program got IEPs. *shrugs* Go figure. _________________ cogito, ergo sum.

Up until Grade 9 I was IEP (they wanted me to goto a certain school in order to retain it or something) I was put under 'Intellectually Gifted'. It's funny, even though they put me in an academically advanced class, I still managed to become best friends with all the ADHD/Autistic kids as well as being hated by all my classmates. Go figure. Nowadays I wouldn't want to be in the Advanced classes because I picked hard courses anyways, and it's very much challenging enough.

If I remember correctly for elementary school and even the times I was in special ed in Junior High that put as having emotional problems and even being learning disabled. Even though many of "professionals" did admit that I exhibited autistic traits they never classified me as autistic.

It wasn't until the 12th grade that I mentioned AS to my sped. teachers. I don't know if I let anyone else know about it though. By then it was a little too late to do something about the situation. If I mentioned it a grade or two earlier, then maybe there could've been a chance to have something done to help me.

First of all, don't be ashamed if you are Autistic and in Special Education. Second, I am in Special Ed. too. Sometimes, I got paranoid that people were looking at me, but I just don't worry about it. I am under the Autism catagory, but should be depriving myself from Special Ed. too. I am placed in again in August, because of some hormonal issues that I was out on Homebound for the majority of the school year. I am in for most of the day, and I'll be there to follow orders, soon I'll be out.

I don't know.. I have to go check later.
My school's Special Student Services staff had pretty much the most bullshittiest IEP meetings ever though _________________ Doro no kawa ni tsukatta jinsei mo warukuwanai
