Why would anyone be offended? Confused It isn't saying that you can sell human children! And anyone who is a realistic parent has had days when they at least wish they could give their children away. They wouldn't but they can at least dream. Smile I have 4 children. I know that dream. I also have 2 dogs, gerbils and fish! Wink

I thought #11 was the funniest part. And I am a parent.

Birds are good pets because if they act up, they can be locked in their cage without suffering.

Birds make a holy racket - even when locked up.

That's true. We have two little lovebirds (size of yer average budgie) and they can squeak and chirp at volume for hours. TM has earplugs when she wants to nap, and I've gotten to where I can tune it out as background noise. I honestly don't know how people live with parrots of cockatoos.

I lived near a couple that had 2 African Greys. Talk about racket. They spoke - rather well, too - and would skwawk incessantly and argue their need to be "in the living room" rather eloquently.

LOL about the parrots arguing their cause !!!

Our vet has a green parrot that was left in the clinic (awwwww) and is a real pip !! One of the assistants was telling us how tame she is, and said to the parrot "Now don't bite" to which the bird replied "I'm gonna". She did, too. My wife and I laughed, and then apologized.

I lived next door to a couple with a Macaw. That bird used to sit in his window and curse at my little dog. It was really funny. And at Christmas I watched him take the ornaments off their tree one by one and toss them across the house. I could see him through the window. He had every one pulled off!! Laughing Listening to his owners was even funnier!

What was funny about those two African Greys is that they'd get to know some of the people who walked home past the house every single day (these people lived near the University, so there was a lot of pedestrian traffic). Some of the people who walked there used to stop to "chat" with those birds. The birds would say "Hi student!" whenever someone with a backpack walked by Laughing

Yes they are. Razor sharp beaks, and enough muscle to amputate a finger.

I heard a story regarding one of those 'parrot rescue' ladies. She was called by the grandson to come 'round to pick up his deceased grandmother's bird. She talked to the parrot, and observed it for awhile, and chatted with the grandson, all the while noticing how tame the bird acted. Yes, he said, granny used to let the parrot sit on her shoulder while she went about her housecleaning, and all that. Whereupon the lady opened the cage door, bent down and said 'hello pretty bird.' In a flash the parrot grabbed her nose from both sides and almost bit clean through the cartilidge !!! Blood everywhere !! Screaming, crying, and the lady made a lot of noise too !!! She didn't sue him, because she was a true bird lover, but she was very careful with the person who adopted the bird.

I've never been nipped, except by our wittle lovebirds, but you have to be very careful with the various parts of your anatomy around out feathered friends ....

Well, I've avoided getting too close to parrots since this hostile parrot incident. However, my cats will occasionally bring live (wild) birds into the house. Fortunately, I've found a woman who rehabilitates wild birds who lives near me. I've brought her several birds - one that was almost completely nude - that have survived cat attacks. I've never had a wild bird draw blood from me yet, but then again the birds that my cats manage to catch aren't terribly large.

I've also been threatened by some rather foul-tempered mallards. I've occasionally fed stale bread to the mallards that live at my dad's condo complex. My dad's got them quite tame - and they expect to be fed at the SAME TIME every day (or they make a holy racket under the window), but they can be quite nasty when they have little ones following them around.

This thread has gone to the birds!!

We have a new puppy in our house. He belongs to my 6 year old daughter. His name is Jedi and he is absolutely adorable. I still think my border collie is the only "REAL" dog in the house, but a rodent dog is okay, too. I will put a picture of them on the Pictures, because we can thread.
