I don't know how to stop, but I do the same thing. I would assume going to a doctor would help with the condition of your nails, but not with the bitting. _________________ Spring is the season when the hawks all start to fly, Well maybe when I die we'll trade places, I'll grow wings and I'll fly, Hey, Blue John, hey Blue John, Heyyy Bluuuue John, Can I Play with you? |

| Maybe you could find something else to bite on? I've never bit my fingernails, but I used to peel them off. When I found something else to do with my hands, I stopped. |

| I'm actually more conserned with the health of my nails, cause i get these little bits of outer layres stll hanging like tags and when I pull them off it hurts and the next day it's all filled with pus. I'm going to ask my parents about an appointment with my doctor. |

I don't bite my nails, because there's not really any nail there to bite. |

I try hard not to bite my nails on my RIGHT hand, because I play fingerstyle guitar. _________________ Spring is the season when the hawks all start to fly, Well maybe when I die we'll trade places, I'll grow wings and I'll fly, Hey, Blue John, hey Blue John, Heyyy Bluuuue John, Can I Play with you? |

Hah. I've been learning to play for a couple years and it's tough because I bite my nails all the time. : P |

I bit my nails when I was 4-5, stopped for a few years and then started again at 3rd grade (age 9).
It has decreased through the years, though, because I need to have long nails to play my guitar well and besides my teeth have ridges over them from biting my nails too much lol.
My mom tried to use some sort of a colourless, bitter-tasting nail polish on my nails to make me let go.... but after it was finished, I still bit my nails as violently as before.
I only bite my thumb-nails about once a week or so, when I can't control myself. My advice is to have a high level of motivation to stop. If you can't take it though, you can just replace it with another thing, such as biting your lips. I bite my lips more frequently ever since I've tried to get rid of my nail-biting. |

I don't bite my nails. The sound drives me nuts. (I do need to cut them again though. They keep getting in the way of my guitar strings, but I really do like having them long.)
If you can find something particularly nasty tasting (and preferably not toxic), try spreading it across your fingers and nails. We did this when my brother was still sucking his thumb at a later age (I can't remember exactly when) and it worked pretty well. It should work on nail biting as well. _________________ “I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as a fraud.” - C.G.Jung |

| My nails have to be kept at perfect length, shape, and condition for playing classical guitar. If I were to chew them it would ruin hours of work. The nails on my left hand have to be kept as short as possible while the ones on the right have to protrude a certain length away from my fingers. The right nails also have to be filed down to a certain degree of circularity to avoid getting caught on strings, and they have to be blunted to avoid damaging the strings. I spend roughly 10-15 minutes a day on nail maintenance. Biting them is out of the question. |

Yes... I still bite my nails, I don't get pus though.
All my nails are short, because the length annoys me. I don't know why I don't just get the nail clippers, I've just had the habit, since, well, forever. I don't think I'll ever get out of the nail bitting habit. |
