| I know a lot of people's initial thought will be all the time. I have the most difficult time fitting in with them when they're hangin' out, like at a party. I'm, actually, supposed to be at one now, but I just couldn't make myself go. They always laugh at things I don't find funny. Well, I might find it smile worthy, but not funny enough to obnoxiously laugh my head off, the way they do. In turn, their attitude is that I should lighten up and learn to have fun. Making a huge joke out of something that was only mildly funny is not my idea of fun. Are they just good actors, or do they really find each other so amusing? Do other Aspies feel the way I do? |

Yes to all of the above. Except I'm ok on the phone with family. It's just NT friends and others who are difficult to talk to on the phone. |

when I have been doing something for a half hour I just got into high gear and I'm off in my interest and my g/f comes over and hugs me or something...
It takes me another half hour to get back into it...

Yes! Goodness yes! I have a very tough time keeping my annoyance masked when I get into my writing groove and then somebody interrupts me, desiring not to exchange a useful bit of necessary information (which would still be an interruption, but an understandable one) but just wanting some small-talk social interaction.
I still haven't found a good way to cope with that. If you warn people ahead of time that you want to be alone for a couple hours, you can get your uninterrupted time... but they typically get miffed at you for "disliking their company".... when you don't even feel that way, you just need to concentrate. |

Big groups don't help, certainly. I think I'm getting better with regard to parties (I spent a long time talking with someone I don't remember ever meeting before at my cousin's confirmation party, for instance - enough for him to think I was great company, at least), but I do still feel out of place frequently when I'm at work - my mental barriers often tend to keep me separate from my workmates and I have had several meltdowns when I've been there.

When they chit chat about meaningless drival and expect to you to be interested in it. When they talk on and on about themselves bragging about every meaningless thing they've done that they view as an accomplishment. When they make fun of other people and expect you to join along in their bigoted discussion.
