|
|
| First let me say hello to everyone and introduce myself, I am a father of a 11 year old girl recently diagnosed with AS. I recieved custody of my 11 year old daughter and my 13 year old son 3 years ago after a 4 year long court battle with my ex-wife. I also have a 16 year old daughter who lives with her mom (not the same ex) and visits every other weekend. I also have a 13 year old step son and a 22 year old step daughter. My AS child is very violent at times has terrible melt downs. I look forward to chatting with all of you in the near future and have so much to talk about i don't know where to start so right now i think i'll just soak in all the info i can from the forum, It is very helpful. |

You will be fine! I was a violent little girl with undiagnosed AS and ADHD, way back in the 70s when no one had heard of such things. My AS mom left the home when I was 2, and I was raised by my NT dad and his parents. I had it really rough at school because of my behavioural problems. I was either the best or worst kid in class, depending on whether or not I liked and trusted the teacher. I always had several close friends who were understanding of me, but I was also bullied pretty badly by other kids. My home life was very good, but I'd still have lots of meltdowns because the stress of the schoolday carried over into the evenings. It wasn't easy on any of us, but we all got through it.
My advice is to just be as supportive as possible, get your daughter all the help available (especially at school), and don't worry too much! Daughters need their fathers, and an AS daughter even more so, I think. My dad was (is) awesome, and his unconditional support of me is what enabled me to have a happy and productive adult life. It'll work out fine for you both. Just be patient with her, and especially with yourself. |

Well Zoloft is known for causing manic episodes in autistics, Adderol is an addictive stimulant and Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic (meaning its barely legal for them to prescribe at all) infamous for aggrivating symptoms and making people violent and incoherent when they weren't before.
Giving autistics medications designed for non-autistic brains is like giving a cat dog medicine.. the effect will be totally unpredictable and may even be fatal.
Since autistics comprise less than 0.04% of the population its very rare for one of us to be included in the medical studies required by the FDA to prove the safety of a chemical compound.
Of course its also very rare for serious side effects to occur as well. Coincidence or correlation? |
