I myself prefer the Civilization series (I'm an addict) on the PC, Romance of Three Kingdoms series, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Gihren no Yabou on the Sega Saturn. So, does anybody else here prefer Turn-based Strategy games?

I used to hate RTS, but
I've found it's ok, and hard
to find decent turn based stuff
anymore.

I used to have a lot of fun with
the old Medieval Lords though,
mainly because it was based upon
a (much better) board game,
Empires of the Middle Ages.

Heroes of Might and Magic III, ftw!
Civilization is awesome series too, but I like Total War's mix of TBS and RTS the most.

I like Civilization I too, but I don't like its clones like Freeciv. I'll have to try Mobile Suit Gundam, but it sounds similar to Super Robot Wars (SNES), isn't it?

I'm currently playing Battle for Wesnoth (Freeware, Linux/Windows). It's quite similar to some board wargames like Magic Knights, and that's why I like it.

And I used to play Advance Wars (GBA) all day long, until I realized that I would never get good at this game. Sad

Depends. Civilization IV lags for me after a while...

I want Civ III again, it had the best selection of units and no religion.

Galactic civilizations is ok but I hate the other species and the ship-making process is complicated. I'd prefer being able to research more than tech at once. There is a huge amount of technologies to research in it.

Very detailed though, I love TBS games.

I prefer RTS to most, however.

I'm not sure if I prefer them to real time or not, but I do enjoy them. I haven't gotten to play Civ 4 yet, but it sounds fantastic (except for the issue mentioned?)

I've enjoyed the Heroes of Might and Magic games, Advance Wars 1 and DS, Dragon Force on the Saturn, etc.

Warhammer 40k: Finaly Liberation. Although it does tend to get to the point where you're fielding whole armies of Titans. This said, I discovered that an army entirely of Gretchen and an army entirely of Warhounds are fairly evenly matched - simply because there are *SO MANY* Gretchen, and Void Shields fail once in a while. It's a comical sight, 5 green midgets tearing apart a steel giant.

Actually, it's not like it at all. It's far more complex, difficult, and strategy based. It can take well over an hour sometimes for a turn on Gundam because of all the strategy involved such as deciding what units to build, the long local battle phases, even choosing what units to move and what ones to plan attacks with, etc. I've played for two weeks so far and I finally just got to the Battle of Solomon.

Would Worms count as turn-based strategy? I reckon it would. Apart from laughing your seat off, if you take the game seriously it's almost a cute version of chess.

I love turn-based strategy. Civilisation is pretty fun, although I always preferred Master of Orion which is very similar but set in space and has spaceship battles and unit customisability.

I also played Jagged Alliance 1 & 2 which were absolutely awesome games, if a little over the top in difficulty. Someone also mentioned Battle for Wesnoth, which gets my thumbs up particularly for being really polished for a freeware game.

Right now my gaming platform of choice is the Nintendo DS so I've been playing the Advance Wars series a lot, and Fire Emblem for the GBA.

I forgot to mention Fire Emblem. Great game. I'm currently playing Fire Emblem: Sealed Sword which wasn't released in US which is on GBA. Smile
