And mental age, of course.
I don't know if this is classifiable as a rant or as an actual discussion topic. I looked 'round the forum and saw a mental age discussion, but it seemed to be more of a humorous one than an actual topic. I'm not being a stickler, or at least, I'm not trying to.
However, I was intrigued by the topic and decided to post it here, rather than in the Teen/Adolescent forums. I'm pretty upset at the negligence placed in those parts, which is why I chose to go here instead. The typing and grammar is abysmal, and I simply cannot function in an area where there are so many errors. It's just me.
I'm sixteen right now, a female diagnosed with AS three and a half years ago, and I'm interested in this concept of "Mental age". Obviously, from the statement above, I'm not the physical age of 28, but I'm intrigued as to how this mental age comes into play...how does one assess this? Life experience? IQ? Number of channels on your television?
Tell me.

When I was young I was considered to "mature"....following the rules, not like the "silly or stupid" things I saw peers doing/saying.Now I am old and am considered to immature for my age.I dont want to play bridge or deal with a 401K...I want to make art/crafts,collect stuffed animals and rocks.I kept waiting to "feel" grown up and it never happened....oh well.I can still relate to the punk song....."I dont ant to grow up....If growing up means being like you,it's something that I'll never do" _________________ Just because one plane is flying out of formation, doesnt mean the formation is on course....R.D.Lang

What he said.
By all means, post where you "fit". WrongPlanet could be the place for you to finally find a comfortable niche. |

oh, goodness, I was part of that thread and wouldn't want to subject anyone to it that didn't have to! I think it all boiled down to "if you think you are, then you are." Anyway, it was Alex Plank that used the terminology - and he was just responding to our requests to have a forum similar to the Adolescent, Children and Parent's and like changes in cages at the zoo, we all had to check it out from all angles!
Welcome, and if you think you belong here, then you do.

| Same here krex. I was always the responsible, dependable one. I had a job delivering Advertiser papers since I was like 13 or 14. I seem to have been over mature through my childhood and then it seemed to have stopped at maybe 16. I don't care at all about "adult" things like 401Ks, career planning. My mental picture of myself is me at around 16. I was just independent enough to go where I wanted (on my bike, didn't drive yet), I could save my wages and purchase the things I wanted, but not quite mature enough to really think about the future and plan it. |

I don't know if it is due to being a single child or what, but I could only get along with people much older than I. Now that I'm older, I can't get along with anybody. Maybe I've outgrown the entire world
It's quite ironic given how my fantasies are often the opposite.
I didn't consider age an issue until I realized how short and pointless life was. I looked in the mirror one day and found another meaning for ageless, and how much one ages while in that state. |

Perhaps "emotional maturity" i better than "mental age"...
I think we don't mature the same way NTs do, so we seem younger than we are relative to some aspects, and look older than we are seen by other aspects. |
