I don't make a lot of money and so I need an apartment that is cheap. My current lease is ending on July 31st and I have still not found a new apartment. I cannot afford a 1-bedroom apartment because this is a college town where everything is overpriced. So, I am scouring Craigslist.org trying to find a 3 bedroom or 2 bedroom apartment that has an open room.

I've looked at a few places with no luck. Made a few calls and they are always like "ok, well, um, I'll call you back next week" and never do. I know that is a polite way of saying I sound like a creep and I can't have the room because of it.

I just ask a few questions about the apartment, sometimes say a few details about myself (such as that I'm a recent college grad and I work full-time). I guess it is my flat voice that makes me sound like a serial killer.

Time is running out. In a month and a half I will be without shelter. I have replied to many ads and I am becoming very discouraged. Same goes for my job hunt. BA degree and I can't get a part-time job at the damn movie theater.

How does one find roommates?

You could rent an apartment and then you would be the one choosing roommates. The risk is that whatever puts people off when you try to join their apartment will also put many of them off from joining yours. You could end up with an even bigger bill that you can't pay. If you do find people who don't mind, some of those will be just fine and more tolerant than average, others could be desparate because they have been thrown out elsewhere for good reason. Whether this works depends on your ability to judge others' personalities.

Pray, lol.
Same situation in the sense I am trying to find somewhere to live, possibly in a shared apartment.
I just hunt down all the sites on the net that are set up specifically to find sharers, and post on them then go from there.
Plus local papers of course, and the usual routes.
But if you do a hunt on certain key words, you should find sites that are specifically aimed for people looking for sharers.

Go to a temporary agency such as Kelly Services and let them find you a job. They generally can find anyone a job in a couple days and often times you will get paid more for that job than if you had gotten that same job on your own.

Even though it is a temp agency many times the employer will offer to keep you on for the same wages after your assignment through the temp agency is over with. At least that was my experience. Actually I was offered even more to stay on at one place, but the job was in a 100 degree warehouse exposed to toxic chemicals. Not all assignments are that bad however.

If you have good manual skills apply with contractor or plumbing crews as they are DESPERATE for help as the younger generation is not going into those job fields even though the pay is quite good sometimes. You might want to omit letting low wage job employers from knowing you have a BA. Employers such as the movie theater will not hire people they assume to be over educated for the position as they figure those kinds of employees will not stay long.
