Supposedly people with AS have bad handwriting. I know I do... and I have been criticized my whole life for it.

It's all over the place and crazy, my letters are barely consistant from one to another. I don't even write on a line, half the time.

The first pic compares pen and pencil, I am much better with a pencil. I hate usuing a pen, if for no other reason that I can't erase my mistakes.

Your handwriting doesn't seem that bad. You're ability to spell the word 'write' however...

Sorry for the horrible camera/writing. It's supposed to say:

This is a sample of my handwriting. I think the 'Aspies can't write' thing is bullshit. Keep in mind my printing looks like this. I can't really tell, so tell me whether or not my writing sucks.

My handwriting is actually okay, but the main problem is my speed. I take so long to write something that by the time I finish one sentence, I've forgotten the rest of the paragraph. This can be especially hindering when I'm doing something like creative writing. Add to that the fact that my grips isn't a hold, it's more of a grasp or a clamp, and I'm never really productive.

That's why I'm using a laptop at school to help out with my English and Film & TV grades, as I can get a lot of my information down. My perspective and content is interesting given my mental wiring, but handwriting often hinders my ability to get it down, so typing is a solution to show my stuff.

Yeah, I use the wrong spelling for words frequently. I try to catch it, but more often than not something will pass through, and with pens you are out of luck.

When I think of what to write, I am always imagining words in a audible way... I don't think of the exact spelling of anything that I want to say. It is only after the fact that I notice something isn't proper and correct it. I spend a lot of time going over my posts making sure I don't make any mistakes.

The process of spelling is completely separate from writing... and it is difficult for me to focus on both at the same time.

It's difficult to imagine words in my mind's eye.

I somewhat agree with this statement. Sometimes people can hear me slowly syllable by syllable speaking out the things I write, other times I repeat the same thing multiple times in my head just so that I know it's grammatically correct. Usually I make mistakes and scribble them out while I write, so my writing has alot of mutilated looking letters.

I agree with the audible statement as well. I think the sounds of the wordsand their vocal form, not the writter version. You can see that without checking my sistakes I make a lot of them (I've made three already!)

Here's a comic I drew a few weeks ago. The first few panels came out really blurry on my camera for some reason, so here's a transcript: Panel 1:Hey, how ya doin? Panel 2:Britney Spears, Craig David and Shaggy are sitting in a room. Then someone farts. Craig David says "Walkin' away" Shaggy says "wasn't me" then Britney Spears says "oops I did it again! HAHAHAHA! Panel 3:Hey, I like your hat! Panel 4:I like zombie movies! What kind of movies do you like? Panel 5:HELLO?

Here's the rest of it, which came out a lot clearer. This is what my handwriting looks like.

now, it depends on the speed i write with. but yes, i used to have the worst handwriting in class at basic school. every exercise was like written by another person. the teacher couldn't understand it. it looked to her like many people were using the same notebook. during the high school, i improved my handwriting, but it depended on the subject. some things were still poorly written. at the university i kept my notes nicely written, even at higher speed of writing.
.
but still there is a problem when writing my own thoughts down. my thoughts are faster than the speed i can write them down. so i try writing them very fast in order not have to stop the stream of thoughts. then, they are very disorganized and i have to write it down again afterwards.
.
edit: this is my handwriting from several weeks ago:

My handwriting is worse than all of those. I can't even write in cursive and have a hard time reading it.

It is just as well, cursive is useless anyway Wink

I've given up on cursive. I barely even write any sort of script when I sign my name. It's just an even more messy version of my regular handwriting... Smile

I learned how to write cursive in grade school, but it never really sat well with me. It's difficult for me to move my hand like that... I make herky-jerky motions with my hand when I write. When I try to write smoothly it just goes all over the place and I have no control.

here's mine..i expect to win some sort of bad penmanship award or something.

Alot of other times...when i WANT my handwriting to be read, I will write in all caps and it doesn't look too bad.
Also, I do alot of hand lettering for signs and calendars and whatnot, and that isn't too bad either...

The above is what I do when I am just scrawling down everyday brain farts..or lousy songs that I write...and it only gets worse from there.

I will try to post some of my more formal signage later

I can write neat but I have to write really really slow. This left me with quite a conundrum in school; get my work done on time but have the teacher send it back because she can't read it, or write neat but turn in a half finished paper.

My numbers and math symbols are quite neat though.
