Sadly, while I understand a little Yiddish, I cannot write it. I always wished I had learned how to speak Yiddish properly, and learned how to write it correctly using Hebrew phonetics.
Alas, just one of my many plans gone awry. |

I'm sorry to hear that. If it is of any consolation, I seldom see correct Hebrew phonetics any longer. Much more often I see it written with the Roman/Latin characters.
If I can make a suggestion, ever hear of a computer program called 31 Languages of the World? Its a bit old, but in my opinion, its a lot better (And cost effective) then many of the computer language learning programs today. I've seen it sell for an average of $10USD. |

Shalom! Are you fluent in Yiddish? One of my great-grandfathers spoke it, but alas, it has died out in my family.
I am interesting in practicing a bissel Yiddish.

I can only say I'm fluent when its recorded with Roman characters. I'm having trouble learning the Hebrew ones. I am sorry to hear it has died out in your family.

I know the lyrics to the quite historical poem S Brennt, although I can pronounce it easier in its Hebrew translation Ha Ayara Bo Eret. I would love to learn Hebrew and Yiddish given my fascination for Israel and my desire to relocate there in the future. I hope to learn these languages someday, I am just unsure where to start and who could teach me. I will need to learn it though if I want to increase my chances in finding a job in Eretz Zion ve Yerushalaim...
