I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this but:
Well, I suppose most people in this forum are older than teen, but does anyone around here watch Naruto Shippuden? If so, you've probably seen the character Sai.
That character is ABSOLUTELY socially clueless. At one point the other characters go to the library and see him reading a book, the title was something along the lines of "how to make friends". And then an arrow points at him saying: "clueless about friend-making processes".
Aside from the social clumsiness, he does not seem to have other common autistic traits, such as motor coordination and speech issues.
So, do you guys think Sai is an autie/aspie?
From the Wikipedia article:
" (...) Sai has been trained to not possess or desire any type of emotion or camaraderie. After spending time with Naruto Uzumaki, however, he begins to crave bonds with other people, which has since become his primary role in the series. Sai's attempts to form bonds involve giving pet names to others; however, he often says what he actually thinks of a person, resulting him choosing names such as "fatso" and "ugly." He eventually learns from his mistakes and attempts the opposite approach, as evidenced when he calls Ino Yamanaka "gorgeous." When not making an attempt to bond with others, Sai spends his time painting and drawing, and has produced thousands of works. (...) " |

I haven't watched the show, but that character definitely sounds like he may have Aspergers _________________ "You can do the math a thousand way, but you can't undo the past"

| I've known about Sai for a long time, and my opinion is... He might as well be wearing a huge neon sign on his forehead that says "ASPIE". |

Hmmm. I have/do watch the show but haven't noticed/don't remember Sai...
Looking it up it looks like we(America) haven't got that far in the anime show yet. Naruto's suit looks different from what it does currently. Last episode they showed dealt with the Demon of the Sea or whatever. They haven't gone back after Sasuke yet. _________________ The world under heaven, after a long period of division, tends to unite; after a long period of union, tends to divide. If you read the manga (and parts of the anime show this as well), he's not nor does he have AS traits. He was just taken as a little kid and raised/trained (and jutsus used on him) to remove his emotions.
AS? Hinata. hehhehehehe. |

^ Dantac, exactly. Besides, Sai was put in to be some kind of a lame replacement for Sasuke. Not a very interesting character to me, but at least I don't dislike him like I do Sasuke. Haha.
You make a really good point about Hinata. Just goes to show that Aspie's can be ninjas, too. Now all we need to do is send an Aspie to the moon.
Who are your favorite characters, everyone? Mine would be Tobi, but you'd have to read the manga to be more familiar with him. I also like Rock Lee, Kakashi, and Kisame. _________________ Jesus: You can't fix what isn't broken. I call that type of fix a crucifix. |

I don't think Hinata is an aspie, maybe she's just really (and I mean REALLY) shy. I think she has social skills, but she's just too afraid/shy to use them. And she blushes alot too. |

shy.. doesn't speak or socialize much ... cant get her point across unless its in a sudden incoherent burst... loner....
sounds like a textbook case.
Favorite char is hard to say. I really liked the Sakura character in the first season. Seemed to be the only one with no special abilities ... just a regular person with a good brain. That fight before she cut her hair is my favourite display of skills in the whole series. But then they turned her into a pathetic clone of tsunade. Aside from that, Shikamaru would be my choice. |

Sai is not autistic (according to the plot), but he definitely acts exactly like an autistic. If it were real life (instead of Kishimoto's interpretation of human personalities through Naruto), Sai would be a high-functioning autistic (Asperger's syndrome). |

Oh, I've seen Sai in the most recent American Shonen Jumps.
I would consider him Aspie IF his profile said nothing about the fact that he was "trained" to be "emotionless and solitary." Other than that, I would agree. _________________ -Kiyoko

I just like Sai's ability ... he freaking bring his drawing to life.
So cool!
But yeah i certainly see similarities.
but for me I have always related to Shikamaru the most. He is just like me especially in school. I was and still am the one who is always bored and laying outside int he grass yet when it comes to things like leadership training i am first to command and always get the job done... also i live by a motto : Path of least resistance _________________ No one grows by sitting at home; so get up, get out, and get a life. |

I never said Sai is awesome. I'm just stating facts.
Socially clueless, saying inappropriate things at inappropriate times, hilarious in a naive way, slow voice and monotone (in the anime), lack of personality, doesn't stand out (Sakura even says that to him), honest and starightforward without realizing he would offend others with his honesty, etc.
It's quite obvious. |
