| don't know about his other books, but "the fermata", which was supposed to be a celebration of female sexuality, was just barely-disguised porn. i, too LOATHED it. i'm afraid i wouldn't read anything else by him, i'm too appalled. |

Vox was a more egalitarian one when it comes to sex. After I read The Fermata I thought that I would never read a Nicholson Baker book again. Then I read The Everlasting Story of Nory, and I changed my mind. That books is about a little girl who wants to grow up and become a dentist, but she has nightmares about being chased by cows with teeth. It's a very lovely book. I'm glad I read it.
Besides, if you read Vox you will be introduced to one of the favorite characters for my friends and Me in college: Forky Pigtail! _________________ My life is a dark room. One big dark room.

I too think Nick Hornby's charaters are quite aspie. I wonder if he himself is.
Does anyone else thnik Mike Gayle might be aspie, he, to me is quite similar in style to N Hornby.
I like them both as authours.

Agreed on Tolkien...
Howard Phillips Lovecraft also very strongly seems Aspie to me, from both what biographical information i have read about him and his obviously self-representing characters in most of his stories (particularly Charles Dexter Ward)...
very, very Aspie-ish Lovecraft quote (from his Wikipedia article): "In youth I scarcely did any letter-writing - thanking anybody for a present was so much of an ordeal that I would rather have written a two hundred fifty-line pastoral or a twenty-page treatise on the rings of Saturn." |

Believe that IRL he has a young son dx'd autistic. Few years ago he wrote a book about/based on this, not sure if it's a novel or non-fiction. Someone else will likely know more & post after this. _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |
