We are having an ambient noise night here at Super happy Fun land..and right now one of the bands is sound checking...and they have all kinds of crazy electronic sound frequencies going on at once...and I am not sure if it is related, but I am having this wonky frontal lobe headache....and sense of brain-itchy agitation....
These are mostly high frequencies...I know that uncompressed low bass frequencies can make me nauseous and irritable....
's funny cause alot of the ambient noise folk seem kinda aspie-like to me......but they are all about these sound frequencies..that while I like and respect in art and theory, give me negative physical responses... |

Yeah... boyfriend is in an electro/indie band, so they occasionally get some nasty frequencies I don't like, specially when they're soundchecking or the PA is crap or the sound guy is rubbish. I wear noise-cancelling earplugs, so it gets rid of the nasty frequencies and lowers the volume, but you still get the good quality sound.
We're still on a search for that frequency that makes everyone poo themselves though!! _________________ We are a fever, we are a fever, we ain't born typical...

High pitched noises drive me nuts. Like just this morning I kept hearing the high pitched whistling noise in my room and finally found it was air trying to get through the window, I tried closing it further and it made the sound worse so I opened it a little and it stopped. the window never did that last year the seal must have been compromised so I guess the heater will have to work a little harder to keep it warm in here which is fine with me I'm not paying the heating bill. But yeah, I seam to be able to pick out high pitched noises from appliances and stuff that normal people either can't hear or are not bothered by but I can't can't ignore them no matter how hard I try. I also hate the sound of the vacuum cleaner when they sweep the carpets in the hall way it just grates on my nerves... _________________ Krista

The higher the pitch, the more unpleasant the sound. The lower the pitch, the more pleasant the sound.
One of my favorite sounds is that of train whistles. Every night, several freight trains pass by my house. They make a beautiful, mournful sound. |

Love bass when it's reasonable, but I too can't stand it when it makes things rattle, it ruins the sound for one thing and most of all it's just plain annoying.
I also like trains, but I love the clickity-clack of the train as it move. When I worked in mossville the road I took ran along side a realatively busy stretch of rail road track and the train were usually the really long freighters that never seam to end and I would always slow down as I walked acroos the parking lot if a train was going down the tracks so I could listen to it. The horn usually scared me to death because I was never expecting it... so I can say I appreciate that sound. _________________ Krista

i dont mind the frequency its self, its the rattling loudness that gets me... so bass its self is not a bad thing...
screechingly high frequencies i do NOT like... those make me go wonky at any volume _________________ check out my website at http://www.alinssite.info and my forum at http://www.disabledplanet.net my WP threads by clicking below

I don't mind white noise, but when it's unpredictable/unbalanced noise then yes, I find it really annoying. It's just impossible to tune out. I think that's why I can't stand jazz either.
There is a kind of high-pitched mosquito type of humming in my room which is sometimes unbearable--it comes from the curcuit box. |

| Middle G on the piano. It is also the sound/feeling I get when I think of or see the number 5. It sends shivers down my spine, yet I am strangely drawn to it. |

| Certain noise frequencies are the biggest pain in my life. The thing that gets me the most is the way certain people talk. Strong syllables like t's and sh's and s's just make my skin and brain crawl, and enough exposure gives me headaches. If I've bothered bad enough, I'll start repeating the sounds. Not the entire word, but just the offending sound. This can cause another entire set of troubles. I had my hearing checked not too long ago, and I have never had hearing damage or loss. I can hear certain higher pitches into the negative decibel ranges. I got the hearing test because I usually wear headphones at work, but I switched jobs and my new boss doesn't like headphones. I confronted him with my hearing results and he gave in to me. I usually listen to pink noise, but I stream stuff over it a lot, like youtube or internet radio. There's the ones woman where I work now that's upper lip is so small and her frontal dental bridge is so big that it forms her mouth into the perfect whistle position. She can't make an S, T, or Sh sound without producing a shrill, (and I mean SHRILL) whistle. I swear it's like I'm the only one that can hear it. It makes me cringe it's so bad and my head hurt tremendously. Before I got permission to listen to headphones again, I used to leave work in almost a catatonic state I was so overwhelmed. |

Griff!!!
You Understand About SSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
It's usually female voices that make this specific sound. I've only met two men in my life who spoke with it. It's piercing beyond words. Since so many women (even, dare I say, most) seem to speak with it, I've come to the conclusion that it has something to do with child/parent communication. It doesn't involve the vocal cords, and has nothing to do with pitch.
