I have no social life outside of my home. i have 2 dogs, Teddy and Linus, the cay mati mae and my 85 year old mother who is a real insipration for getting old.
since i have moved to West Tennessee i have had no contact with anyone, strike one is that i am an outsider, strike two i am from the west, and strike three is i am over educated.. if the locals found out i was a Buddhist and 'different' they would be at my door with torches and a rope.
in the past i never liked to be around a lot of people if any, especially with a lot of noise.. it is like being eletrocuted there is so much sensory input..
but i enjoy my conversations at various forums. |

I pass as normal at work, with a lively and quirky sense of humour. I've well programmed myself within the ranges of situations I'm likely to meet.
Outside that, I'm also very reliant on the net for contact. Broader social life is just too stressful in its unpredictibility and triviality to be obviously worth the considerable effort.
"Are we having fun yet?"
A good cause or a worthwhile activity can get me out there, but that remains the focus. Doing evening classes to meet people doesn't spark things off.
Internet a good or bad thing? Without it I might be driven to more "real life"* contact, and with practice get to enjoy it, find it sustaining.
Yes, maybe, but it's not what I'd bet on.
*as though my heart and brain stop when I'm on-line! |
