Is anyone else irritated by "loud talkers?" When someone is talking loudly on a cell phone near me, it sounds so loud I can't focus on anything except getting the hell out of there.

yes, I think even NTs find that annoying. But what's worse, talking loudly or eating loudly?

I would say that living loudly gets on my nerves. I have the quiet type of AS. Earplugs is my middle name

Loudness doesn't always bother me but sometimes the pitch gives me a headache. My Mum for example, when she gets annoyed or excited about something her voice raises and gets higher in pitch and I can't listen to her without covering my ears. She was in a mood yesterday and ranting about everything, I went home with a rotten headache and a guilt complex because I was covering my ears when she was talking which seemed to offend her and make her even more annoyed. I told her I could still hear her but I guess it's rude to protect one's ears when people are irritating them Wink

Ditto.

It's as though some people have an amplifier in their voice-boxes. Maybe they're a bit deaf and can't hear how loud they are... I just wish they'd turn it down a bit. Smile

Often I talk too loudly without realising it and mum has to tell me to modulate my volume. I CAN HARDLY CONTROL IT! I CAN'T TELL WHETHER I'M MODULATING OR DE-MODULATING MY VOLUME OR NOT!! Mad Not that I want to be a loud talker, it's just it's so hard for me to control it.

I do speak loudly especially if I'm exited and do so without being aware of it at all.

I'm a loud talker when I am in public, except it's the NT's that tell me to shut-up!

Lol, good one! Although I've noticed other cultures are louder than Americans-Chinese for instance, and Italians, etc. Confused

Often it is the case that people talk loud because they were not listened to as a child, very understandable as that this, I wish they would see a therapist than declare their insecurity like a manic fog-horn.

However, ear plugs are my way of dealing with this, it really does save me from getting worked up, and it enables me to have compassion for those that NEED to be heard.

It's always annoying to sit next to someone shouting into their cell. Or even people who yell in normal conversation. I normally carry my ipod around to solve this issue ^^

Yeah, I hate when people talk louder than necessary. I have been able to hear conversations being conducted a block away, because the people were speaking that loudly. Usually they get into their car, and then turn up the music even louder.

I second that. The worst part is, they usually don't ever have anything interesting to say. Rolling Eyes
