1. Ingemar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander
2. Akira Kurosawa's Ran
3. Wim Wenders' Wings of Destiny (EDIT oops, Wings of DESIRE)
4. Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy (Technically one film cut into three pieces, in my view)
5. Fight Club
This is just off the top of my head for right now. --If I thought about it more, I'm sure that it would be a little differant.

Professor Tolkien intended it to be all one book (six parts, plus the appendices), so kudos to you for thinking along the same lines as him. _________________ Itaque incipet.

I have asperger's for heaven's sake. Asking me to choose just five movies is like asking someone to eat one potato chip. I can't do it!!!! So instead I will list my 5 favorite directors/producers, as that is a far easier task and less likely to cause terminal brain freeze.
Joel/Ethan Coen
Blake Edwards
Val Lewton
Peter Jackson
