I am putting this as a challenge to everyone who mentioned they detested their bodies in the aforementioned thread.
I propose a forum-wide commitment to a strict physical fitness regimen, which must take place three times a week, and consist of a balance between cardio and weight training.
The objectives will be to maintain physical fitness based on endurance, and to relieve anxiety.
Members who commit will be charged with posting weekly updates as to the number of reps and sets they were able to complete, their heart rate, and elapsed time to run the mile.
In my case, as I have been lagging in my exercise regimen lately, my goals are as follows:
2 miles in less than 13 minutes
70 push-ups in a minute
120 sit-ups in two minutes
200 lb bench press
Maintain resting heart rate of 46 beats per minute
My current condition:
2 miles in 15.5 minutes
58 push-ups in a minute
80 sit-ups in two minutes
130 lb bench press
62 beats per minute resting heart rate
Those willing to take this challenge, just post to this thread. _________________ My motto:

I don't think excercise is the answer--some people will always hate themselves, they have no ideal. It sounds like the OP of the other thread is actually quite skinny anyway. _________________ Oh how I wish for soothing rain

That is not the kind of exercise I do.
I already cycle 30 mins on a magnetic resistance cycle, walk for almost 2 hours a day at a fast pace and do another 25 mins of exercises of my own making a day.
That and I am on a restricted diet.
I think doing the lot you listed, I would just keel over of a heart attack lol. |

i do 50 pushups and 100 situps once or twice a day. usually morning and night...... takes only a couple min to do both together. (thanks to my 11.5" biceps!)
i can run about 5 miles in about an hour.... lol but i don't do so regularly.
everyone has stuff they dont like about themselves..... but what can you do. i like to exercise cause it makes me feel better and not necessarily about the way i look.
am about to go treat myself to sushi atm
edit: i lift weights when i can, but nothin over 50 lbs. dont need to get any beefier _________________ and yet i'm

I go to the gym three times a week, and on the days I don't go I do crunches and treadmill. _________________ Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.

when you are talking about push-ups and sit-ups, do you mean per set?
Because I can only do about 6 push-ups at a time right now, lol. And not far enough to make my chin touch the floor. |

Exercising doesn't cure anorexic thinking. In fact, obsessive exercise regimes are a symptom of the illness. _________________ Effect of Blood Plasma from Psychotic Patients upon Performance of Trained Rats |

I just do push ups on the floor when I feel like it. LOL, I'm not real into a regiment of exercising, I do like to get out and walk with my IPOD playn random music. |

that true and plastic surgery does not cure that either. i have read about people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder having loads of procedures done because they hate the way they look and having more later because they hate the result and end up destroying a perfectly nice body or face. It because they always hate their body no matter what it looks like. |

| Michael Jackson really is a good example of that. He's even in deniable about ever having anything done to his face. |

I actually think this is a really good idea. Well, maybe not to the extent that the OP exercises, which may be too much for some people who are not as physically fit, but the idea of an exercise regimen. _________________ I am neurotypical - I just want to find out more about Asperger's Syndrome. |

i think it's a really good idea because it could help by doing a number of things:
1) for those who dislike their body because they're out of shape, overweight, etc. it will help shed some pounds and hopefully increase their self esteem/self image.
2) for those who are depressed, it can help alleviate the symptoms of depression. I know that exercise really helps get rid of depression. also, when i don't exercise (at least now) for a few days (5+) i start to slip back into depression. that's not because i'm addicted to exercise, it's because i become depressed very easily now and exercise makes a huge difference.
3) it makes you feel better in general because your body is healthier, you're releasing endorphins, which should give you more energy and improve your mood.
My goals are different from yours:
1) i want a 2000m time on the ergometer (rowing machine) to be under 7min by september (i might already be there, in which case i'll adjust this)
2) I want my 6000m time to be under 22min
3) decrease my resting heart rate (currently 55-60, although i've seen it as low as 48. the medication i'm on for adhd increases this, however.) |
