I saw that story on the news Sunday night and they only flashed momentarily on the forum page, but I immediately recognized that it was from this site. Knowing the media like I do, I wonder how many 'guests' we have crawling our forum right now in search of possible murderers and other criminals. Maybe one of the oldtimers can tell me how many online guests and members we have on here normally during a given day. I bet the number of spiders has grown exponentially in the last 24 hours. I changed out my avatar because I work in the media and though my picture was 'artsy,' people would still know it's me. Sort of dismays me that I've written some rather personal stuff here. If my bosses see any of it, I'm screwed.

The guy only did two posts, so you can't really say he is much of a member WP. If people are crawling through here they are really low, because this site is for helping people with their problems

Yeah I it's best to keep your identity private if you put personal information on the net. I've heard of people getting into trouble for what they wrote on myspace and bebo etc.

There are some pretty low people out there, and a lot of them work for the media, LOL. I guess we can hope that if they're trawling this site after the recent publicity, maybe they'll learn a little something about ASDs and expand their awareness just a bit.

I agree. I haven't ever given my full name online, not even here. But because I have a inner morality code that smacks me in the brain if I don't tell the truth about myself, I did use a real photo. No longer, though. Any jerk out there desperate enough to track you down can do so with just a photo and little else if they set their minds to it. It has happened to me before.

If anyone wonders what happened to them, I've moved the two threads that hans_rp posted on away out of sight.

I did this, because his introductory thread had trebled in length, due to one person accidentally (I think) bumping it, and then several people getting totally confused and thinking it was a new "new member" post.

So does this thread constitute, "discussion of another member?"

Nearly 17.5 thousand members and only two have killed someone? I'd say those stats are lower than in the general population...

No offence, not to trivialize murder via statistics, but given the odds, someone on here's BOUND to be involved in a violent crime. And we shouldn't be too surprised when it does happen-- sad, but not surprised.

One presumes so. There certainly is a member called "hans_rp". We seem to be discussing that member, and wondering if he might really be Hans Peterson (which seems likely, judging from last year's thread). As "hans_rp" isn't a banned member, there's no particular reason not to discuss him.

A post six months after the event, and from other reading, just as they were closing in on who he was.

A look at his computer will show he Googled, Defenses when they have you cold for murder.

There is a Forensic Psychiatrist in California who web advertises his serveces in an AS defense.

His AS seemed book learning to me.

A Twinki Defense.

Fearing he would be sentenced to life here, on WP, his next search was air fare out of country.

He chose, Guilty, but French.

His father, a Doctor, says maybe Zit Meds, but does not mention Autism?

St. Martin, where he is, refuses to extridite him because they never get mentioned in the US news, so this is free press, unsavory Americans with money are welcome, and hundreds of hotel rooms have been filled, meals eaten out, bars filled, by the press and various legal teams.

Some of the people even come from France, which has been ignoring them, their funding requests, pay raises, permits to move to France, need for a tourist airport, casinos. And what about the water plant, power, so this ignored colony can have tourists?

The real issue is, American Fries, which deeply insulted the Honor of France.

Income is up, they are often in the world press, and most people want to leave St. Martin.

I love Wrong Planet, but I lived in that other place before.

It was in the last ten minutes of the show that suddenly WrongPlanet appeared. The other forum that the guy posted on had its logo blocked out, but Wrong Planet didn't. Did reprisentatives from NBC News talk to Alex to ask for permission before showing his website on national television linking it to a murderer? Because they blocked out the other one that he used more frequently (where he blamed an acne drug he took twice for the cold blooded murder of a respected doctor).

can anyone post the Wrong Planet segment of the dateline episode on youtube or google video? I want to see exactly how the site was mentioned.

I didn't talk to anyone at dateline about this specific case but I don't see why they would black out the logo of a website on their show.

This is what I found from Dateline NBC's webpage - which basically just transcripted everything said on the segment:

Quote:
If Accutane isn't the cause of his problems over the last several years, what was? At one point, Hans himself wrote a description on another Website of his childhood and personality traits, raising another possible explanation for at least some of his complaints.

In February 2007, just a few months after the murder, he wrote that he's "always been different from most," that he was so uncommunicative many "felt he was mute" and he has "never been in a real relationship in his life." He wondered whether he has Asperger's, a mild form of autism, a brain development disorder characterized by extreme social awkwardness.

There was no mention of Accutane or the doctor he'd obsessed about for years, a doctor who was already dead.

and this is the segment where it features WrongPlanet:Here

It's about 2 minutes, five seconds into this segment. (well, the segment will appear after some sort of add. and the two minutes, five seconds is approximate.) It tries to hide the logo by coming in at angles, but that doesn't do anything. The website's name and the logo are in full and complete view.

Alex, this seems like moderately bad publicity, i'd at least put in a call to NBC News and/or Dateline. They should've at least blurred the WP logo like they did to the other forum the guy posted on.

I put my name up because I feel that if it is safe enough for facebook it is safe enough for Wrong Planet. I just don't give my address or birthday or anything. But I think putting my name up on wrongplanet allows people to know the person they are talking to.

I didn't read all the posts, but, I don't see any reason why we should encourage wrongplanet to be placed under the microscope over one guy who happened to as well post here. They could as well check out the Safeway the guy shops at.

It's like asking a whole lot of strangers with questionable intentions to come over and critique, snoop, or complain.

So he posted here. He probably ate at Denny's too.

So he may have thought he had aspergers--->

I don't think we should invite this to become something it is not.
If we make a big smell about it it may become that which we are complaining we don't want it to be. THEN we'll be sorry.

At the moment--its nothing. He posted at WP. He ate at Denny's. Same level.
