It isn't very often that I have dreams I wish I didn't have to wake up from, but my last one qualifies. There was a place, kind of like a social club, for people with AS. There, I wasn't worried about coming off as weird, and I was able to be myself without fear. I was confident, and I had friends. (Also, there were a disproportionate number of girls there, but that's how most of my dreams are.) I had never before felt such a feeling of belonging, even though it wasn't real.
Will it ever, or does such a place really exist? Will I need a place like that? Will I need it, but not have it? I'm not even sure I'd like it, since I haven't seen any evidence to indicate that I'd do well socializing with anyone. Still, I can dream. _________________ Deploy the rocket boat! |

Last night I unexpectedly met someone just like me. It has never happened before and I'm still really shaken up about it... I think I never thought I'd have that, surely no one in "real life" could have all my quirks.
I couldn't believe how calm I felt, exactly as you explain. I had nothing to hide, didn't need to try really hard. So if a place like the one you dreamt does exist, maybe just in one person, I think you would feel that same calmness and positivity. And it really can happen unexpectedly. |

Sounds like you know exactly what I mean. Probably even more so, since it happened to you in real life. I haven't actually met anyone close to being like that, but I'm almost positive there are people who I could be comfortable around. I'm sure there are many people who feel the same way. _________________ Deploy the rocket boat! |

| You know what's really strange though, now I'm really nervous to meet this person again. I'm sure its just feelings carrying over from all other socialising experiences. But I'm worried I'm going to chicken out, or that on next meeting it won't be the same calmness and I'll see that we're not the same at all. |

I'm the same way after meeting someone I like. Even if I do okay with talking to them and not making a fool out of myself, I worry that I won't succeed the next time. In my experience, this worry is ungrounded. I'm sure you'll do just fine. _________________ Deploy the rocket boat! |
