| I finally saw a psychiatrist yesterday, and he told me that while I do possess some Asperger's traits, he doubts I have it because I'm "too nice." Does this make sense to anyone? I've seen plenty of nice people on this board, so I wouldn't think "being nice" should factor into it. |

i have the "too nice" problem to...but i sitll have the diagnoses!
thats a load of crap.
the Psyche probably misinterpruts not social as "un-nice"

Eh, don't let us fool you. We're actually all just, well...terrible, terrible people. No exceptions.
In fact, if you actually go ahead and try to get the professional diagnosis, the clincher question is "do you like puppies and children?" If you answer yes to either, they rule you out automatically. |

Some of the psychiatrist in Edmonton are to busy to give proper assessments, depending on where you go, I was at the U of A and really hated the walk in clinic, but had a very good psychiatrist, Dr Grover for about 3 years, I heard he committed suicide, but don't know the circumstances. Some of the other psychiatrists there were useless, they were clueless |

I have been told that I am a very nice person but I still have Aspergers, doesn't matter how many tests I take, it always says Aspergers, even if I try to cheat ha ha |

| There is a group of symptoms of AS which, if seen, will make the person appear "too nice"! ALSO, the stuff that makes AS people appear arrogant, etc... may be over compensated and make the person appear even NICER! So "too nice" might make it MORE likely you have AS, NOT less! HECK, a LOT of people have said I was "VERY NICE, AFFABLE, GENEROUS", etc... |

Ah, crap. That's the one I went to.
They got me coming back in a couple of weeks for an ink blot test and other stuff. Guess I'll see how that goes. I'm curious to know what they actually think I have. |

I normally start each day with a full tank of "Nice". It's not a large tank. Things like drama, stress, and over-stimulation can empty it PDQ. How nice I am to a person is determined by the fullness of my Nice tank. After my Nice tank is empty, I have to rely on my limited reserves of Civil. You don't want to be around me when I've run out of Civil. If you meet me in the morning, right after I've had my coffee, and before anything unpleasant has happened to me, I can be plenty nice. That doesn't mean I won't inadvertently offend you by saying the wrong thing, or that there won't be awkward pauses in the conversation, or that I will be any good at small talk. It just means I'll say, "Hi, what can I do for you?" instead of silently glaring at you like you're an annoying insect.
I've seen many examples on this board of people in various stages of Nice, Civil, and Empty.
Lots of people post when they're full up on Nice. Some post here to relax themselves when they're running on Civil. And some come here to vent when they're out of everything. Just look at all the posts where people are like "I want to die" or "I want to genocide my own species."

Oh, for crying out loud!
I met a pediatrician once who told me that he found it astounding how well-researched and knowledgeable most parents of autistic kids were. I don't know what we have to do to get the pediatricians and psychiatrists as knowledgeable as we are or are becoming.
I told the doctor that autism is so hard to deal with (excuse me for saying my autism plus daughter was and is hard to deal with, but she is) that we are forced to research. But looking back, and knowing what I now know, I have always liked doing research and wuddya know I am on the spectrum, and indeed many parents of autistic people are. And an awful lot of us manage to be polite in public. Sheesh! |

He has probably diagnosed a nasty aspie and assume all aspies are like that.
It's probably good he didn't diagnose the lower functioning aspie who am used to live with,as he would think all aspies attack weaknesses, scream at sensory accute people to make them meltdown to watch,wee on the floor,projectile vomit and wipe in hair,crap on the floor-eat it-and smear the left overs on the wall.
He is talking rubbish,having an ASD does not make Autists b*********s,am LFA and have 'easy going and nice' wrote about am in a report from an Autism speech therapist.
Find a pysch. who is experienced in ASD,that one sounds like they not have much experience,if they did have the experience they would know Autism and AS are individual experiences.

"A nasty aspie." Heh. That should replace one of the evolutionary critters that shows up under our names as our post count goes up.
Honestly, if a doctor said that to me I would just assume he was patronizing me and not taking the possibility of the diagnosis seriously. I mean even if he was somewhat ignorant about the autistic spectrum, that's not usually the way doctors present things when they're being straight-forward with patients- at least, not in my experience. |
